  • Patent number: 5042610
Abstract: A four-wheel drive vehicle including an engine of which output shaft extends transversely, a transmission connected with one side of the engine transversely through a clutch or a torque converter, an inter-axle differential machanism constituted by a planetary gear machanism, a first inter-wheel differential mechanism of a bevel gear type for transmitting a driving force to first wheels which are located closer to the engine than second wheels longitudinally, second inter-wheel differential mechanism for transmitting the driving force the second wheels through transfer gear mechanism, propeller shaft mechanism, and inter-axle differential restricting mechanism for restricting a differential operation. The inter-axle differential mechanism, input gear means of the transfer gear mechanism and the first inter-wheel differential mechanism are coaxially disposed on an axle of the first wheels.

  • Patent number: 4875978
Abstract: A motor vehicle drive system including a transmission having an output gear connected with an idle gear which is provided rotatably on an input member of a front inter-wheel differential gear mechanism which is provided in the front axle assembly. A transfer shaft is provided adjacent to the front axle assembly and has two or more inter-axle differential gear mechanisms which are of different torque split ratios. A selecting mechanism is provided for selectively connecting one of the inter-axle differential gear mechanisms with the idle gear to establish a desired torque split ratio between the front and rear wheels.

  • Patent number: 4817753
Abstract: A vehicle four wheel drive system including an engine located in the front part of the vehicle body adjacent to the front wheel axles with the output shaft arranged to extend transversely of the vehicle body. A transmission is provided at a side of the engine and has an input shaft connected with the output shaft of the engine through a power clutch. On the front wheel axles, there is a front inter-wheel differential gear mechanism. At a side of the inter-wheel differential gear opposite to the engine, there is an inter-axle differential gear and a transfer gear is located at a side of the inter-axle differential gear opposite to the inter-wheel differential gear. There is further provided a differential restricting device which may be a differential lock device or a differential limiting device. The device is located at a side of the transfer gear opposite to the inter-axle differential gear.

  • Patent number: 4709775
Abstract: A torque control system for vehicles provided with a four-wheel drive mechanism including a power plant having an engine and transmission, and torque control means for controlling a torque distribution between front and rear wheels detecting rotation speed difference between the front and rear wheels so that the torque distribution ratio of the rear wheels to the front wheels can be maintained at a given constant value irrespective of a change of the output torque of the power plant. The torque control system is provided with a vehicle speed sensor and steering angle sensor in order to obtain the rotation speed difference.
