  • Patent number: 7922840
Abstract: A method for producing hot-rolled strip from austenitic stainless steels. In a first step, a cast product is subjected to a rolling operation in a rolling mill with a finishing train, and, in a second step, a heat treatment is carried out to prevent susceptibility to corrosion, especially intergranular corrosion due to chromium carbide precipitation. To establish the final rolling temperature (Twe), a run-in temperature (Tein) of the cast product into the finishing train of the rolling mill that is above 1,150° C., and preferably above 1,200° C., is established by a multistage heating process, especially a two-stage heating process, which comprises a preheating stage and an intensive heating stage, and the heat treatment is carried out by directly utilizing the rolling heat.

  • Publication number: 20050072499
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing rolled products from austenitic rust-resistant steels. In a first step, a product to be cast (6) is subjected to a rolling process in a rolling mill (13), and in a second step, said product is subjected to heat treatment for preventing susceptibility to corrosion, especially inter-crystalline corrosion caused by chrome carbide precipitation. The aim of the invention is to render the inventive method more cost-effective and energy-saving. To this end, the rolling heat is directly exploited for the heat treatment for preventing susceptibility to corrosion. The invention also relates to a corresponding installation.

  • Patent number: 6689230
Abstract: A method of cooling on a cooling bed hot-rolled steel sections from rolling heat, wherein the sections, particularly rails, have section parts of different masses arranged at a distance from each other over the cross-section of the section, and an apparatus for carrying out the method. Initially, the heat quantities to be proportionally removed from the different section parts in dependence on their mass and temperature and the quantity of cooling medium required for this removal are determined and computed by using measuring equipment together with a computing unit by means of a computer program. Subsequently, cooling of the different section parts or their masses is carried out in a controlled manner in such a way that the section parts reach with as little time delay as possible the transformation line Ar3/Ar1 during the decomposition of the gamma-mixed crystal into ferrite and/or pearlite while releasing the transformation heat.

  • Patent number: 6497271
Abstract: The invention relates to a pig casting machine comprising at least one endless conveyor belt (2), on which pig casting molds (3) are fixed, for conveying pig casting molds from a casting station (4) to a pig removal station and vice versa, wherein each pig casting mold is filled with molten metal as it passes through the casting station with the mold cavity facing upwards, in addition to a device for cooling the pig casting molds before, during and/or after casting, wherein the pig casting molds are embodied having a thin wall. According to the invention, in order to increase output and to be able to cast heavy metals in such a pig casting machine, the pig casting molds (3, 112, 207) are designed to receive molten metal at a melting temperature above 1,000° C.

  • Patent number: 5802904
Abstract: A universal roll stand includes two vertical housings each being composed of a single piece, upper and lower transverse girders arranged above and below the vertical housings and lateral support projections for receiving vertical rolls. Tie rods are guided by the vertical housings and the transverse girders. Crossheads are insertable into recesses of the lateral support projections. A rigid universal stand is formed by connecting and screwing together the two vertical housings through the crossheads and the upper and lower transverse girders with the tie rods.
