Abstract: A paper dispenser is furnished with one or more turnable or tiltable cutting or tearing off device, equipped with serrated or jagged edges. When inactive, the cutting edge is held by a spring or by force of gravity in a safe or innocuous position. As a drawing force is applied to the paper web coming out of the dispenser, the cutting or tearing off device is turned or tilted so that the serrations of the cutting edge come into contact with the paper web. When a portion of the web is torn off, the jagged edge returns to its shielded position. The cutting or tearing off device can be directly actuated by the paper web, or via an intermediate element.

Abstract: A cloth towel dispenser incorporates at least one towel unit. Each unit is provided with a first delivery station which supports a clean towel roll having a horizontal axis. The towel roll has a leading feed edge and is adapted to be freely unrolled in successive portions. The first station includes a delivery roller rotatable about a horizontal axis and disposed adjacent the roll for unrolling it. A second draw-in station is spaced below the first station and has a take-up roller freely rotatable about a horizontal axis. The second station includes a draw-in roller rotatable about a horizontal axis to retract the successive portions of the roll onto the take-up roller. The leading edge of the roll passes in a manually extractable loop from the first station to the second station along a path which extends downwardly from the first station to a position of use disposed below the second station and then extends upwardly to the second station.

Abstract: In known textile towel dispensers the clean towel is manually pulled out at the front, the used towel is automatically drawn in at the rear, and the end of the towel hangs down vertically when the roll of clean toweling has been used up. The inventive towel retracting or retraction apparatus contains a towel loop loaded with a weighted roller and concealed by a cover which can be part of an enclosure. The used toweling or towel section is thereby pulled behind the cover where it can neither be seen nor reached by the user. A delay mechanism ensures that the towel loop, which is partially pulled out from the towel dispenser and partially pulled out from behind the cover, remains stationary for a few seconds before it is retracted behind the cover.

Abstract: Acetylene compounds of the formula ##STR1## where R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and X have the meanings given in the description, a process for their preparation and their use for regulating plant growth.

Abstract: The room spray dispenser (1) holds a container (29) that is provided with a valve element (27) which also works simultaneously as a pump. Above the valve element (27) the operating end (25') of a pressure lever (25) is located. It is loaded in the direction of the valve element (27) with at least one spring (26,33). The blocking lever (14) has a raised contact surface (14"). This surface is pressed downward with the operating end (3') of a swivelling lever triggering mechanism, which is mounted on the door (5) or the door frame (6). This downward movement trips the blocking lever (14), which then allows the pressure lever (25) to press down upon the upper part of the valve element (27) due to the force of the tension spring (26). By the return movement of the swivelling lever (3) the blocking lever (14) is raised upwards to its original position and cocked by means of the cocking lever (15). The tension spring (26) is also stretched during this process.

Abstract: The soap solution dispenser contains a reservoir into which opens an outlet or outflow opening of a container. In the reservoir there is present a float body or float which is pivotably mounted and provided with at least one indicator flag. Conjointly with the drop of the liquid level in the soap solution reservoir the float body also descends, which causes a displacement of the indicator flag. During the lowering of the surface of the soap solution the indicator flag moves along a viewing window formed in a cover or covering hood. There is thus signalled or indicated that the content of the soap solution in the reservoir is quite small or nearly consumed, so that the container now should be exchanged. One resulting advantage of the invention is that the indicator flag moves externally of the soap solution, so that the indicator flag cannot become stuck or bind, and thus, always remains readily visible.

Abstract: New 1-acyl- and 1-hydroxymethyl-cyclododecanes and -cyclododecenes. The new 1-acyl-cyclododecenes and -cyclododecanes are obtained by a Rupe or Meyer-Schuster rearrangement, with or without subsequent hydrogenation in the presence of Ni, Pd and Pt catalysts. The 1-acyl-cyclododecenes and -cyclododecanes are valuable scents of the basic type of the sought-after macrocyclic musk scents. Furthermore, they are used for the manufacture of numerous other new 1-substituted or 1-and 2-substituted cyclododecenes and cyclododecanes having good scent characteristics.

Abstract: Aromatic amines, in particular substituted amines, are obtained from corresponding alicyclic alcohols or ketones, in one step, by amination and dehydrogenation with ammonia in the presence of hydrogen and of a palladium catalyst which also contains zinc or cadmium.

Abstract: A container closed by a lid for receiving and compacting waste paper includes a volume-occupying lid (3, 14) which fits inside the container (1, 13). The container (1, 13) defines a chamber large enough to accomodate individual pieces of waste to be deposited and compacted. The lid (3, 14) is retained in the container-closing position.

Abstract: A dispenser for sheets of web material, such as paper towels, from a supply roll, including a housing, means for holding a supply roll of the web material, and means for separating a sheet of the web from the supply roll operable in response to a user pulling the sheet from the housing and arranged to present at least a portion of the leading edge of the web ready for a user to seize for the dispensing of a further sheet as a direct result of the user pulling the previous sheet from the dispenser.

Abstract: New derivatives of 8-dehydro-vitamin A obtained by vinylating or ethynylating and subsequently partially hydrogenating, 1-[3-methyl-octa-1-yne,3,5,-dien-7-on-1-yl]-2,6-dimethyl-cyclohex-1-ene or its 5- and/or 6-methyl derivatives, converting the resulting alcohols to the corresponding derivatives of 8-dehydro-vitamin A halides by reacting with thionyl chloride or phosgene, and if required converting the resulting alcohols or halides to the corresponding trialkylphosphonium salts or triarylphosphonium salts, or reacting the 8-dehydro-vitamin A halide derivatives with alkali metal salts or alkaline earth metal salts or anhydrides of lower carboxylic acids. The new compounds can be partially hydrogenated to the corresponding polyene compounds, in which case the cis-trans isomer mixtures first obtained can be rearranged in the conventional manner to the physiologically active all-trans compounds.

Abstract: Bis-epoxy-dialkoxy-alkanes are valuable intermediates for the preparation of the sought-after aromatic 2,5-dimethyl-4-hydroxy-2,3-dihydrofuran-3-one. The novel bis-epoxy-dialkoxy-alkanes are obtained by reacting the corresponding .alpha.,.alpha.'-dihalo-1,2-diketones with an alkali metal hydroxide or an alkali metal alkoxide and an alkanol at from -20.degree. to +100.degree. C. To prepare the 2,5-dialkyl-4-hydroxy-2,3-dihydro-furan-3-ones, which are valuable aromatics, the novel bis-epoxy-dialkoxy-alkanes are heated with strong mineral acids or strong organic acids at from 60.degree. to 120.degree. C.

Abstract: 1-[3-Methyl-3,5,5-trialkoxy-pent-1-yn-1-yl]-2,6-dimethyl-cyclohex-1-enes, which may or may not be methyl-substituted in the 2- and/or 6-position, are obtained by reacting the corresponding 1-[3-methyl-but-1-yn-3-en-1-yl]-2,6-dimethyl-cyclohex-1-enes with orthoformic acid esters in the presence of acid condensing agents. The new compounds provide a new method of access to the compounds of carotinoid chemistry, especially to vitamin A, which avoids the conventional expensive synthesis via phosphorus ylide compounds.

Abstract: Novel 2-methylene-3-methyl-3-(1',3'-pentadien-1'-yl)-bicyclo-[2,2,1]-heptanes substituted in the 4'-position by methyl, alkoxycarbonyl, formyl, hydroxymethyl or cyano are obtained by reacting the novel aldehyde 2-methylene-3-methyl-3-formyl-bicyclo-[2,2,1]-heptane with 3-methyl-, 3-alkoxycarbonyl- or acetalized 3-formyl-2-butene-1-triarylphosphorylidene under the conditions of a Wittig reaction, with or without hydrolytic cleavage of the acetal group, or hydrolytic cleavage of the acetal group followed by reduction of the formyl group to the hydroxymethyl group, or hydrolytic cleavage of the acetal group, reaction of the aldehyde with a hydroxylammonium salt, and dehydration of the resulting oxime.The novel compounds are distinguished by interesting scent characteristics.

Abstract: The invention provides a container for waste materia, particularly but not exclusively for paper waste, comprising, a casing forming a container for waste material having structure defining an opening for entry to the container, a lid movably mounted on the casing adjacent the opening for movement between an open position allowing waste to be put into the container opening, and a closed position closing the opening of the container, the lid being formed so that in its closed position it extends into the container beyond the extremity of said container structure to occupy a volume within the container at least equal to that of an item of waste for which the container is intended, and means for releasably retaining the lid in its closed position, whereby each time waste is inserted through the opening and the lid closed, the waste in the container is progressively compressed and a space is created for the reception of further waste when the lid is next opened.

Abstract: A device for dispensing web material, particularly paper towel material, in a series of sheets has means for carrying first and second rolls of the material. A pivotally mounted lever is retained against resilient bias by the presence of the web from the first roll and released after consumption of the web from the first roll to carry the tail end of the web from the first roll into frictional engagement with the leading end of the web from the second roll in a nip formed between a backing roller and a roller carried on the lever.

Abstract: The new product 3-oximino-4-oxo-2,5-dimethyl-tetrahydrofuran is manufactured by oximation of the new product 3-carboxy-4-oxo-2,5-dimethyl-tetrahydrofuran with aqueous nitrous acid, nitrite esters or nitrosyl chloride. Because of its fine caramel-like fragrance it may be used for the manufacture of scents and flavor materials. In addition it presents an advantageous method of synthesis of the sought-after flavor material 4-oxo-3-hydroxy-2,5-dimethyl-4,5-dihydrofuran (furaneol).

Abstract: New substituted 1-alkenynyl-cyclohexanols and 1-alkenynyl-cyclohexenes. The 1-alkenynyl-cyclohexanols are obtained by reacting the corresponding cyclohexanone witn an enyne in the presence of a strongly basic condensing agent in an inert solvent, or with an alkali metal salt of an enyne in an inert solvent. The 1-alkenynyl-cyclohexenes are obtained by dehydrating the 1-alkenynyl-cyclohexanols or 1-cycloalkanolyl-alkynols. The new compounds are themselves interesting scents, but can also be used as starting materials for further interesting scents.

Abstract: 2,6,6-Trimethyl-cyclohex-2-en-1-one is manufactured by reacting ethyl isopropyl ketone with acrolein in an organic solvent in the presence of a strong organic acid at from 40.degree. to 150.degree. C.
