  • Patent number: 5079640
Abstract: A signal transmitting installation that is mounted on a moving object comprises a central surface and at least one outer surface. Transmitting elements are distributed over each surface with more being arranged on the outer surface so as to create a higher intensity signal and more evenly illuminate a plurality of receivers distributed along the direction of motion of the object. The transmitting elements can emit signals that contain different codes. The coded signals are evaluated using the receivers positioned along the path of the motion of the object. The aim is to detect at the least the location of the object from the different codes in signals that are received by determining which codes do not overlap. The moving object can be a mechanical miner.

  • Patent number: 4557805
Abstract: At a coke oven of a coking plant, each operating machine is provided with a U-shaped detector unit equipped with infrared light gates. Each operating station of the coke oven is provided with a signal plate carrying positioning marker elements for fine tuning the positioning of the operating machine at the operating station and with identification marker elements for identifying the respective operating stations. Each infrared light gate includes an infrared light source and an infrared light sensor connected to an electronic evaluation circuit comprising a memory with a reading monitor for detecting and correlating the coded identification markers on the signal plates.

  • Patent number: 4483708
Abstract: A method of regulating the melting rate of a self-consumable electrode during electroslag remelting in a slag bath, wherein the lowering speed of the electrode which is to be remelted, the length of which is determined, is regulated in consideration of maintaining a set or reference value of the melting rate and the current intensity and/or the potential. There is continuously determined the weight of the part of the electrode immersing into the slag bath from the actual total electrode weight and the length of the electrode above the surface of the slag bath and such is compared with a set or reference value and altered when there is present a deviation of the quotient U.sub.Ref and J.sub.Ref, wherein the former represents the reference potential or voltage and the latter the reference current, and the product remains constant. The actual melting rate is compared with a set or reference melting rate and when there is present a deviation there is correspondingly altered the product of J.sub.Ref and U.sub.Ref.

  • Patent number: 4394193
Abstract: Internal structure of a metal strip is monitored by applying cyclically varying magnetic flux to the strip and sensing the flux induced in the strip. Signals corresponding to the magnetic field intensity of the applied cyclically varying field and to the resulting induced flux indicate the loss of energy due to the internal structure of the strip. Making a similar determination by similar monitoring apparatus following annealing of the strip allows the effect of the annealing to be determined. The signals from the two monitoring apparatus can be used to generate a comparison signal to control the operation of the annealing treatment apparatus.
