Patent number: 7284679Abstract: An apparatus for dispensing respectively predetermined quantities of pulverulent contents has a rotatably drivable metering roller containing at least one metering chamber and a material store which stores the pulverulent contents. The metering roller contains at least one lateral line, which is not line-connected to the metering chamber and of which the at least two line ends terminate on the surface of the metering roller. A gas line is guided into the housing and passes out of the housing again in a concave surface region. Gas is introduced into the material store via the lateral line, in dependence on the respective rotary position of the metering roller, through said gas line. Depending upon the rotary positions of the metering roller, the gas line, which fluidizes the contents present in the material store, is closed or opened by the metering roller.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 2004Date of Patent: October 23, 2007Assignee: Harro Hofliger Verpackungsmaschinen GmbHInventors: Tobias Zill, Manfred Reiser

Patent number: 7237699Abstract: A filter piston apparatus that dispenses predetermined volumes of pulverulent bulk material has a metering chamber which accommodates in each case a predetermined volume of bulk material, which is present at the end of a circular-cylindrical bore and which has its base formed by a filter of the piston. The metering chamber is attached to a positive-pressure or negative-pressure gas source through the filter, which is permeable to gas but impermeable to the bulk material. A piston wall has a transverse slot and an inner groove located radially opposite the transverse slot, such that the filter can be pushed into the slot from the outside and, when seated in the piston, can be secured on both sides in the axial direction of the piston along it periphery.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 2004Date of Patent: July 3, 2007Assignee: Harro Hofliger Verpackungsmaschinen GmbHInventors: Tobias Zill, Manfred Reiser

Patent number: 6807796Abstract: A machine and method for loading surgical needles having attached sutures into a package. The machine has a rotating disk mounted to a frame. The disk has circumferential grooves for receiving a suture. The machine has a block slidably mounted to the machine for receiving a needle and transporting it to a motion device. The motion device moves the needle to a package on a packaging machine. Rotation of the package by the packaging machine causes the suture to move out of the grooves and into the package.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2003Date of Patent: October 26, 2004Assignee: Ethicon, Inc.Inventors: Clifford A. Dey, Robert J. Cerwin, Thomas J. Zingale, Konstantin Ivanov, Delfin A. Lorenzo Iglesias, Manfred Hild, Manfred Reiser, Bernard Wachter

Patent number: 6804937Abstract: A machine and process for packaging armed sutures into tray packages. The machine has a frame with a rotatable indexing disc member mounted to the top of the frame. A plurality of tool nests are rotatably mounted to the top of the indexing disc. Tray packages mounted in the toll nests are rotated to wind sutures into a suture channel in the packages. A stylus having a front nose member and a rear heel member guides suture into the suture channel. Channel winding pins in the winding tooling provide for an arranged wind of suture in a suture channel of the tray packages. The machine has an in-line printer and a punching machine for printing and punching paper covers from strips of stock material, which are then mounted to the tray packages.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2003Date of Patent: October 19, 2004Assignee: Ethicon, Inc.Inventors: Clifford A. Patent number: 5664404Abstract: The specification discloses an automated apparatus and method for packaging surgical needles having sutures attached thereto wherein a bundle of needles and sutures are placed at a semi-automated separation station and an operator feeds the needles, one at a time, into a rotating needle feed wheel. As the feed wheel advances, the suture is tensioned and directed along a pre-determined path to separate it from the remaining sutures in the bundle. The apparatus has a plurality of individually rotatable tool nests which are sequentially spaced on a rotating or indexing turntable. These tool nests sequentially receive plastic packages for receiving the needle and suture at a first station. At a second station, a needle is inserted into the package by robotic fingers which have retrieved the needle and attached suture from the rotating needle feed wheel. The rotating needle feed wheel and the rotating tool nests are synchronized to step together as each advances.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1995Date of Patent: September 9, 1997Assignees: Ethicon, Inc., Harro Hofliger Verpackungsmaschinen GmbHInventors: Konstantin Ivanov, Donald Pompei, John Rega, Lorens Slokovic, Haro Hofliger, Manfred Reiser, Erwin Bauder, Edgar Wieland, Roland Eissele, Manfred Hild

Patent number: 4902137Abstract: A method is proposed for detecting foreign bodies in fluids to investigate the fluids such as infusion liquids for foreign bodies which can lead to the plugging of infusion needles or other dangers for a patient. In the method light is directed onto the fluid and the light departing from this fluid is detected. The fluid is illuminated evenly with polarized light, and the light penetrating through the fluid is further dimmed by further polarization. The light intensity of individual measuring regions is measured through photo-electric sensing and the measured intensity is compared with an adjustable threshold so that when the threshold is exceeded at any given time during a measuring interval, corresponding signals are produced.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1988Date of Patent: February 20, 1990Assignee: Harro Hofliger Verpackungsmasghinen GmbHInventors: Gunther Krieg, Gerhard Barth, Eberhard Vaas, Manfred Reiser
