  • Publication number: 20220390668
Abstract: A system for producing an optical fiber with inscribed grating array is described. The system comprises a fiber drawing apparatus for drawing an optical fiber, a writing system for inscribing a grating in the optical fiber during the drawing process of the optical fiber and a controller for controlling the driving of the writing system. According to the present invention the fiber drawing apparatus also comprises a fiber length and/or drawing detecting means for determining the fiber length and/or fiber drawing speed and/or a fiber drawing parameter during the drawing process. The controller thereby is configured for capturing information from the fiber length and/or drawing detecting means and for controlling the writing system based on the captured information captured from the fiber length and/or drawing detecting means.

  • Patent number: 8474333
Abstract: An industrial roll is provided, comprising a transverse force transducing fiber Bragg sensor that is embedded in the roll cover and/or located in-between the roll cover and the roll core of the industrial roll. The transverse force transducing fiber Bragg sensor comprises a fiber optical waveguide having a fiber core and a fiber cladding, and a stud element being nonpositively joined to a partial area of the circumferential surface of the fiber optical waveguide. The fiber optical waveguide comprises a Bragg grating located in the fiber core, whereby the dimension of the partial area in the longitudinal direction of the fiber is longer than a grating spacing of the Bragg grating. The partial area is located at a section of the fiber optical waveguide housing the Bragg grating, and at least a first component of the stud element is formed from a first material having a Young's modulus of less than 10 kN/mm2.

  • Publication number: 20040033022
Abstract: A laser module can be used with optical transmission systems and a method stabilizes an output wavelength of the laser module. Devices are provided for stabilizing an output wavelength of the laser module; the devices have a measurement apparatus for measuring the photon density within the resonator, an adjustment apparatus for adjusting the effective optical path length of the resonator, and a control apparatus that, based on a comparison between different values of the photon density at the different effective optical path lengths of the resonator, produces control commands to the adjustment apparatus to adjust the effective optical path length of the resonator to equal the emitted output wavelength to a desired wavelength. The wavelength of a semiconductor laser can be set precisely to a desired wavelength irrespective of the age and ambient temperature.

  • Patent number: 6647038
Abstract: An optoelectronic laser module, in particular for dense wavelength division multiplex systems, is described. The laser module has a laser diode with an active region, an optical resonator containing a highly silvered reflecting surface and a Bragg interference grating which provides frequency-selective feedback, and a housing which accommodates the laser diode and has a holder for coupling an optical conductor. The Bragg interference grating is configured as a fiber Bragg grating in an optical conductor and the optical conductor is connected to the housing via the holder. As a result, it is possible with the use of standard components to provide a laser having an external resonator whose emission wavelength can be set in a simple way by suitable selection of the fiber Bragg grating.
