    Abstract: A wheel bearing unit for vehicles having a speed of rotation detector. An inner ring of the wheel bearing unit is mounted on an axial shoulder of the wheel hub. The inner ring is retained axially by a bead formed by plastic deformation of the rear end of the shoulder. Elevations protrude axially rearwardly around the circumference of the bead. An axial depression into the rear of the hub at the hub axis. The passage of the elevations are sensed by a rotation detector spaced from the rear end of the hub.

    Abstract: Constant-velocity joints in tripod construction have an external joint component (1) in which are formed three circumferentially spaced axial guide tracks (2) with bearing surfaces opposite each other in the circumferential direction. An interior joint component (3) has three circumferentially spaced radial trunnions (4) which engage in the guide tracks (2). A roller unit (8) is on each of the trunnions (4) and is radially supported in the guide tracks (2). The roller units (8) are essentially held at constant angles in the guide tracks. The roller units (8) are, relative to the trunnions (4) and radially movable with angular mobility. The roller unit (8) are each mounted, free to rotate, on a roller carrier (6). The trunnions (4) have connected to their ends, spherical heads (5) which engage a radial internal recess of the roller carrier (6). A needle bearing (7) with a cage (9) is located between each roller carrier (6) and roller unit (8).

    Abstract: To achieve a dependable axial fastening of a flat cylindrical outer surface of the outer ring of a double row angular anti-friction bearing inside the smooth internal surface of the bore of the external housing in which the outer ring is disposed, the races for the bearing rolling elements, and which are either balls or tapered rollers, are oriented so that the resultant lines of bearing force extend from the rolling elements, converge and intersect the outer surface of the outer ring. The resultant lines of force converge at or radially outward of the outer surface of the outer ring. A respective pair of interruptions, in the form of annular grooves around the outer surface of the outer ring, and having sharp transition edges with the outer surface of the outer ring, are defined at both axial sides of and near to the intersection of a resultant line of force with the outer surface of the outer ring.

    Abstract: A wheel mount for driven wheels including an axially inner hub and an axially outward outer part. A first row of rolling elements rolling about the periphery of the hub and a second row of rolling elements rolling about the periphery of a pivot journal projecting from the outward part into the bore of the hub. In the bore of the hub is a circumferential array of axially extending, obliquely radially outwardly inclined teeth. A fastening journal from the outward part projects into the bore axially past the oblique teeth. The fastening journal is plastically deformable to define a deformed bead which engages in the toothing in the bore of the hub to provide a rotation lock between the hub and the outward part. The bore of the hub and the periphery of the fastening journal also are stepped complementary for axially fixing them in form locked manner.

    Abstract: A wheel mount for motor vehicles or the like. An axially inner hub having an axle journal which projects axially outwardly and a first row of ball bearings rolling about the axle journal. A separate inner ring axially outward of the axle journal and having a second row of ball bearings rolling about it. The separate inner ring having a radially widened region on the axially outward side. The internal bore of the separate inner ring progressing from a radially smaller diameter at the widened region over a plurality of steps which have gradually greater inner diameters. The axle journal on the hub extends through the inner ring and has correspondingly shaped steps. The inner ring is force fit over the axle journal. A radially outwardly bulging bead presses on the axially outward end of the separate inner ring and presses that ring against a shoulder of the axle journal.

    Abstract: A wheel bearing unit for motor vehicles, and the like, having an outer ring and two rows of anti-friction rolling elements in the outer ring. An axially inward hub has one race for one row of rolling elements. An axially outer part of the of the bearing unit has another row of rolling elements on its periphery. One of the hub or the outer part has an axially projecting pin projecting toward the other. The other of the outer part and the hub has a sleeve with an internal bore into which the pin projects. The periphery of the pin and the interior of the bore are stepped complementary to one another such that when the hub and outer part are brought together, they are stabilized thereby. An axially directed projection projects from the axially forward end of the pin into engagement with the bottom of the bore. When the outer part and hub are relatively rotated, the contact is sufficiently heated to friction weld the end of the axially directed projection to the bottom of the bore.

    Abstract: A stop screw with drop-in ball comprises a drop-in ball supporting body which holds the drop-in ball at the top axial end of the body, and support balls for the drop-in ball in the top end. An inner cup like part of deep drawn sheet metal has an open top end at which the drop-in ball is disposed. A hollow screw-housing surrounds the inner part. The inner part has a widened diameter region toward the ball and the axial end of the screw housing engages the widening region of the inner. A radially inwardly directed collar at the top end of the inner part projects inwardly toward the drop-in ball and holds the support balls in the top end. A spring in the inner part presses the ball supporting body through the top of the inner part.

    Abstract: A wheel mount for a motor vehicle including a hub which is welded to another part, such as a swivel joint or a holding part. The hub carries on it the inner ring of the anti-friction bearing for the hub. Projecting axially from the hub and from the other part are correspondingly radially spaced projections which, prior to welding and deformation of the projections, are of lengths great enough to hold the hub and the other part axially apart. Upon welding temperature being achieved at the projections, e.g. by friction, the hub and the other part are pressed together which deforms the projections, forming beads of deformation, and the hub and other part are welded at the beads of deformation. The hub and other part are pressed together until the axial ends of the hub and other part contact.

    Abstract: A tapered roller bearing has an outer ring and an inner ring, a row of rollers between the rings and a cage or separator. The inner ring has spaced apart flanges or lips between which the rollers move. The cage includes an annular ring at the radially smaller side which has undulations circumferentially around that ring. The indulations have axially inwardly directed crests that rest against and are pretensioned to urge the rollers toward the other inner ring flange. The webs of the cage between neighboring rollers have radial projections which engage the flange at the radially smaller side of the bearing. The distance between the plane which passes through the axial end surfaces of those radial projections and the plane which is defined by the tips of the undulation crests against the ends of the rollers is slightly greater than the difference between the distance apart of the flanges and the length of the rollers between the flanges.

A second set of ball bearings (3) is supported directly on the stub shaft. The removable section (14) extends from the free end of the stub shaft (99) to a point located between a first plane containing the ball centers of the second set (3) and a second plane contacted by the outer surfaces of the balls in the second set. The second plane being between the ball centers of the first and second sets.

    Abstract: In order to keep at least part of the axial and tilting forces that act on a bearing away from the stub shaft supporting the bearing rollers, the inner ring of the bearing is constructed of two sections (2) (3) that support individual sets of ball bearings. The inner ring sections abut one another in a plane perpendicular to the bearing rotational axis. One of these inner ring sections (3) is force fitted on the stub shaft at the free end thereof and has a larger cross section than the other inner ring section (2). A necked-down bolt and mating closure nut, the latter being adjacent inner ring section (3), cooperate to maintain the other bearing elements assembled in operative relationship.

    Abstract: A double-row, angular-contact ball bearing unit includes double sided cage, a plurality of balls maintained in first and second circular arrays by the cage and disposed between a one piece outer ring having two races and an inner ring formed of two side by side sections, each having an individual race. Angled deflectible locking fingers extend inwardly from the cage into a locking groove in the inner ring section for the first array at a location between the arrays of balls, and this section extends sideways into the region of the second array. The outer ring is undercut from the outer race having the second array to the side of the outer ring that is remote from the first array. The cage side for the first array is of the comb-type and the cage side for the second array is of the window-type.

    Abstract: A journal bearing for two relatively rotatable members is formed from two coaxial rings, one of them being axially divided into two mutually symmetrical halves with respective annular track surfaces each bounded only by an external shoulder while the other ring has two annular track surfaces separated by a pair of internal shoulders. Two sets of rotary bodies (balls or rollers) are confined by these shoulders between respective inner and outer track surfaces and are held spaced apart by a common annular cage with annular lips or groups of teeth snap-fitted into a pair of closely juxtaposed annular grooves near the shoulderless internal edges of the two ring halves whereby the entire assembly is held together when detached from the relatively rotatable members.
