Abstract: A method for monitoring an amount of a chemical material that includes: providing an at least one portable container; and providing into the at least one portable container a first amount of the chemical material. The method includes operatively associating a sensor with the at least one portable container, the sensor effective to detect a first level of the chemical material in the at least portable container and to generate a first data signal based on the first level. The method includes operating the sensor to detect a change in the amount of the chemical material in the at least one portable container, and thereby to generate a second data signal based on the change. The method includes using a processor in operable communication with the sensor.

Abstract: A cationic potato starch in solid flake form with a substitution value of about at least 0.01, where the starch has been chemically modified to be cationic. The starch has been demonstrated to have superior properties for use in such applications as personal care and agricultural drift control, or as an adhesive, a flocculent or a coagulant. The superior properties of the starch include superior film-forming, adhesive and crosslinking capabilities. The adhesive properties of the starch offer advantages over other starches in such service, or non-starch substitutes such as guar.

Abstract: A guar gum powder product whose manufacturing process includes the additional step of extruding hydrated and flaked guar splits prior to grinding and drying. The extruding step may be included before or after the step of flaking the splits. The inclusion of the extruding step, along with the flaking step, has been found to create a guar gum powder product which has advantageous properties over the prior art. These advantageous properties include (1) increasing the hydration rate and the hydration acceleration rate of the guar gum powder without any corresponding change in particle size, and (2) providing a hydration acceleration rate that is less affected by cold temperatures.
