  • Patent number: 5965805
Abstract: Described is an apparatus and a method to accurately determine the gas entrainment characteristics of liquids, such as automatic transmission fluids. The apparatus comprises a liquid reservoir, a conduit having an inlet and an outlet connected to the liquid reservoir so as to form a pressurized recirculating loop for the liquid in the liquid reservoir, a pump for moving the liquid through the conduit, and a means for admitting gas (such as air) into the conduit to aerate the liquid.

Date of Patent: October 12, 1999
    Assignee: Exxon Chemical Patents Inc.
Inventors: Raymond F. Watts, Manoj Tandon, Patrick J. Colby
  • Patent number: 5858935
Abstract: Power transmitting fluids, especially automatic transmission fluids, possess improved properties such as antiwear, durability, antioxidation, and shift-time performance by incorporation of high viscosity polyalphaolefins.

  • Patent number: 5840663
Abstract: The anti-shudder durability of power transmitting fluids, particularly automatic transmission fluids, is improved by incorporating a combination of low potency friction modifiers, alkyl phosphites, specific ashless dispersants and a corrosion inhibitor. The anti-shudder durability of these fluids may be further enhanced by inclusion of a metallic detergent.

Date of Patent: November 24, 1998
    Assignee: Exxon Chemical Patents Inc.
Inventors: Roger K. Nibert, Manoj Tandon, Raymond F. Watts
  • Patent number: 5750476
Abstract: The anti-shudder durability of power transmitting fluids, particularly automatic transmission fluids, is improved by incorporating a combination of low potency friction modifiers and phosphorus-containing compounds. The anti-shudder durability of these fluids may be further enhanced by inclusion of a metallic detergent and/or a polyol ester friction modifier.
