  • Patent number: 8681455
Abstract: A slider includes a leading edge, a trailing edge, a transducer adjacent to the trailing edge, and an air bearing surface. The air bearing surface includes a forward pad, a rearward pad, and a center rail pad feature disposed along a longitudinal axis of the slider. The center rail pad feature includes a first shallow recess finger and a second shallow recess finger diverging from the longitudinal axis toward the trailing edge.

  • Publication number: 20140023108
Abstract: A bias signal is applied to a resistive thermal sensor located proximate a magnetic media reading surface of a magnetic sensor. The bias signal is modulated between first and second bias levels. First and second resistances of the resistive thermal sensor corresponding to the first and second bias levels are measured. Based a difference between the first and second resistances caused by in increase in thermal conductivity between the magnetic sensor and a medium as the magnetic head gets closer to the medium, at least one of a spacing and a contact between the magnetic sensor and the medium are determined.

  • Publication number: 20130286805
Abstract: An apparatus includes a near-field transducer at or near an air bearing surface of the apparatus. A write pole is disposed at or near the air bearing surface and proximate the near-field transducer, respectively. A thermal sensor is disposed at the air bearing surface and within a protrusion region of the air bearing surface defined relative to at least one of the near-field transducer and the write pole. The thermal sensor is configured to produce a signal indicative of a temperature at the protrusion region.
