    Abstract: The present invention is directed to an implantable, slow-release, self-absorbing, biologically compatible drug delivery system such as slow-release pharmaceutical compositions, including for example, slow-release, allergy desensitization compositions containing one or more allergens in combination with a biologically-compatible, self-absorbing matrix. The present system is useful for treating disorders including, for example, infections, deficiencies or allergies. The present invention is also directed to methods of treating a patient suffering from a disorder, as well as methods for desensitizing a patient to one or more allergens.
