Patent number: 7419011Abstract: The present invention provides a small electrical motor, coupled to the snow plow of a UTV or ATV via a mechanism which allows the plow blade to move in response to unexpected spikes in load. In one embodiment, a braking system is used to absorb the load force. In a second embodiment, a set of pulleys is used in conjunction with a belt, such that the belt will slip in the presence of excessive force. In a third embodiment, a rack and pinion mechanism is used in combination with a spring element to absorb the excessive load.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2005Date of Patent: September 2, 2008Assignee: Curtis International, Inc.Inventors: Marc D. Curtis, Kenneth Ehn

Publication number: 20040118621Abstract: A hydraulic system for an off-road vehicle such as a utility terrain vehicle. The hydraulic system of the present invention is coupled directly to the torque converter of the vehicle, and drives a hydraulic pump that provides both continuous hydraulic fluid as a power source (for working implements such as a jack hammer or hydraulic chain saw) and intermittent hydraulic fluid as a power source (to raise and lower a snow plow blade, for example). A clutch is used to engage or disengage the hydraulics when desired.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2003Publication date: June 24, 2004Inventor: Marc D. Curtis
