  • Patent number: 10247489
Abstract: A heat sink structure is provided having fins mechanically altered dynamically to change and optimize the heat sink's performance based on certain environmental conditions. Specifically, the shape of fins of the heat sink structure is dynamically altered in response to environmental conditions that indicate the need for increased thermal performance by spreading the fins through a mechanical device dynamically, or by collapsing the fins to reduce pressure drop across a region when increased thermal performance is not needed.

  • Publication number: 20190058226
Abstract: A wet-cell in a battery is configured with a set of i-electrodes. A collection surface inside the wet-cell is identified where electrically conductive debris accumulates to an expected height. A first i-electrode of a first polarity in the set of i-electrodes is configured to be located at substantially the expected height inside the wet-cell. A second i-electrode of a second polarity in the set of i-electrodes is configured to be located at substantially the expected height inside the wet-cell. A first indication device is installed where the first i-electrode and the second i-electrode are configured in an electrical circuit via the first indication device, wherein when the electrically conductive debris has accumulated up to the expected height, makes simultaneous electrical contact with the first i-electrode and the second i-electrode and activates the first indication device.

  • Publication number: 20180226691
Abstract: A wet cell battery, where a first cell in a wet-cell battery includes a set of anode electrodes and a set of cathode electrodes, and where electrically conductive debris accumulates on a surface inside the first cell to an expected height. An anode electrode in the set of anode electrodes has an anode end closest to the surface, and a cathode electrode in the set of cathode electrodes has a cathode end closest to the surface. A first gap distance between the anode end and the surface is different from a second gap distance between the cathode end and the surface. When the electrically conductive debris accumulates up to the expected height, the debris fails to make simultaneous electrical contact with the anode electrode and the cathode electrode due to the different gap distances.

  • Patent number: 9876437
Abstract: An interleaved transformer or a transformer and integrated set of inductors formed via a magnetic structure comprising a set of E cores and an I core inserted between the set of E cores is provided in order to address issues that occur when a structured transformer is coupled together with inductor flux. Actual inductance exhibited by the transformers is controlled by a preselected precise gap between the I core and each of the E cores. The advantage of such a structured transformer cancels out the magnetic flux in certain legs of the magnetic structure requiring less magnetic material and thus, less core losses while improving the overall efficiency of a power supply.

  • Patent number: 6246969
Abstract: A method and apparatus for testing cooling units used in computers is presented. Testing of such cooling systems increases the reliability thereof, which in turn increases the reliability of the computers utilizing these cooling systems. The cooling system tester comprises a test frame which supports a plurality of evaporators, associated modular cooling units (units under test) and associated fan or blower assemblies. A heating element is attached to each of these evaporators to act as a heat load for the corresponding modular cooling unit, i.e., to simulate the heat load of an actual computer. The heat output of the heating elements are controlled by a computer. The power supplied to the modular cooling units is also regulated (controlled) by the computer. A program in the computer runs a test on each of the modular cooling units. The program checks for user input and the installation of a modular cooling unit.
