  • Patent number: 5398091
Abstract: A method and apparatus suitable for use in a camera for alleviating the effects of film curl due to film core set in a film cartridge caused by aging and/or elevated temperatures. Curl in a film strip stored in a cartridge must be flattened out in the exposure space gate of the camera so that the camera is able to optimally focus an image of an object on the entire image receiving surface of the film within the exposure space gate of the camera. Photographic film wound tightly into film cartridges and stored for a period of time develops a core set approaching the diameter at which it was maintained such that film frames closest to the core have higher degrees of curl than those frames farther away from the cartridge core. Ambient temperature and humidity also contribute to the degree of curl at the time an exposure is made. In order to achieve optimum film flatness in a conventional space gate (i.e., platen, rails), a wider gap is optimum for higher curl and a narrow gap is optimum for lower curl.

  • Patent number: 4859841
Abstract: Digital data apparatus includes a reader for reading digital data encoded on a datastrip on an application insert. Disclosed is a sensor for sensing whether or not an application insert is positioned for reading by the reader. The digital data apparatus includes a platen upon which an insert is positioned and which is accessible through a door. An end of the platen is located adjacent to the door. Opening the door moves the end of the platen so that an application insert can be positioned on the platen. Closing the door allows the platen to press the insert towards the reader to facilitate reading digital data on a datastrip of the insert. The sensor is a microswitch, mounted on the platen. The microswitch has an actuator which is engageable by an application insert positioned on the platen. The microswitch is only actuated when the door is closed and an application insert is positioned on the platen.

  • Patent number: 4829432
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for shielding an electric circuit, mounted on a circuit board, from electromagnetic interference (EMI). The electrical circuit is mounted on one side of a circuit board. A conductive layer on the other side of the circuit board functions as a ground plane. An enclosure of insulating material is open on one side and has an inside surface of electrically conductive material. The circuit board and enclosure are joined together so that the electrical circuit on the circuit board is substantially completely surrounded by the electrically conductive material on the inside surface of the enclosure and by the ground plane of the circuit board. Thus, there is provided an effective EMI shield for the electrical circuit.
