Publication number: 20060262266Abstract: The electronic device (1) of the present invention has a carrier (10) with a plurality of discrete electro-optical elements (110, 130, 150) mounted on the surface of the carrier (10). The electro-optical elements (110, 130, 150), which cover respective parts of the electrode structure (12) on the surface of the carrier (10), each have a polymer layer (114, 134, 154), which encloses an electro-optical material (102, 122, 142) between the polymer layer (114, 134, 154) and the surface of the carrier (10). The discrete electro-optical elements (110, 130, 150) have been formed by the individual deposition of discrete droplets of a liquid comprising the electro-optical material and a polymer precursor followed by exposure of the droplets to a stimulus triggering the polymerization of the polymer precursor.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 25, 2004Publication date: November 23, 2006Inventors: Joost Vogels, Paulus Duineveld, Stephen Klink, Roel Penterman, Dirk Broer, Hjalmar Huitema, Jan Van Der Putten, Marc Op De Beeck

Publication number: 20060232666Abstract: A multi-view image generation unit (100) for generating a multi-view image on basis of an input image is disclosed. The generation unit (100) comprises: edge detection means (102) for detecting an edge in the input image; depth map generation means (104) for generating a depth map for the input image on basis of the edge, a first group of elements of the depth map corresponding to the edge having a first depth value, related to a viewer of the multi-view image, and a second group of elements of the depth map corresponding to a region of the input image, being located adjacent to the edge, having a second depth value, related to the viewer of the multi-view image, the first value being less than the second value; and rendering means (106) for rendering the multi-view image on basis of the input image and the depth map.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 28, 2004Publication date: October 19, 2006Applicant: Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.Inventors: Marc Op De Beeck, Fabian Ernst

Publication number: 20060133472Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing spatial scalable compression of a video stream is disclosed. The video stream is downsampled to reduce the resolution of the video stream. The downsampled video stream is encoded to produce a base stream. The base stream is decoded and upconverted to produce a reconstructed video stream. The reconstructed video stream is subtracted from the video stream to produce a residual stream. It is then determined which segments or pixels in each frame have a predetermined chance of having a predetermined characteristic. A gain value for the content of each segment or pixel is calculated, wherein the gain for pixels which have the predetermined chance of having the predetermined characteristic is biased toward 1 and the gain for other pixels is biased toward 0. The residual stream is multiplied by the gain values so as to remove bits from the residual stream which do not correspond to the predetermined characteristic.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 26, 2003Publication date: June 22, 2006Applicant: Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.Inventors: Wilhelmus Hendrikus Bruls, Gerardus Vervoort, Reinier Klein Gunnewiek, Marc Op De Beeck

Publication number: 20060055678Abstract: A handheld device (1) has a display screen (2, 22), and means for displaying a document on the screen and means for scrolling through the document by tilting the device. The device comprises a splitting screen (23, 24, 61, 71) in front of the display screen (22) for splitting the image in a number of sub-images in a number of viewing zones (A,B,C,D), and in operation for each or for each or for a number of viewing zones a different part of a document is visible in a manner such that when tilting the device the parts of the document are visible in a sequential manner. The device may be tilted around a horizontal or vertical axis depending on the orientation of the splitting screen.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 10, 2003Publication date: March 16, 2006Inventors: Richard Kleihorst, Peter Meijer, Marc Op De Beeck

Publication number: 20050285936Abstract: The invention provides a method for visualisation of a 3-dimensional (3-D) scene model of a 3-D image, with a 3-D display plane comprising 3-D pixels by emitting and/or transmitting light into certain directions by said 3-D pixels, thus visualising 3-D scene points. The calculation of the 3-D image is provided such that said 3-D scene model is converted into a plurality of 3-D scene points, said 3-D scene points are fed at least partially to at least one of said 3-D pixels, said at least one 3-D pixel calculates its contribution to the visualisation of a 3-D scene point.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 8, 2003Publication date: December 29, 2005Inventors: Peter-Andre Redert, Marc Op De Beeck

Publication number: 20050248503Abstract: A display system (100) for displaying images from different data streams (1,2) simultaneously is described. Images corresponding to the first data stream (1) are shown to a first observer (106) in a vehicle and images corresponding to the second data stream (2) are shown to a second observer (108) in the vehicle. The display system (100) comprises: a display screen (102) for generating a first one of the images and a second one of the images; and an optical selction screen (104) for selectively passing the first one of the images in a first direction (101) towards the first observer (106) and passing the second one of the images in a second direction (103) towards the second observer (108).
