  • Patent number: 5312273
Abstract: A shielded modular jack is provided for interfacing a modular plug with a printed circuit board. The plug has an external conductive shield, and the jack includes a dielectric housing having a plug-receiving cavity. A plurality of terminals are mounted on the housing with resilient cantilevered contact arms extending into the cavity for engaging respective contacts of the plug when the plug is inserted into the cavity. An electrically conductive shield includes a pair of electrically isolated shield portions each having a board contact projecting beyond the housing for contacting a circuit trace on the printed circuit board, along with a shield wall disposed in the plug-receiving cavity for electrically contacting the shield on the plug when the plug is inserted into the cavity. The inserted plug electrically couples the shield portions and, thereby, establishes electrical continuity between the circuit traces on the printed circuit board.

  • Patent number: 5304074
Abstract: An electrical connector is disclosed in a modular telephone connector configuration and includes a housing defining a standard telephone jack. A plurality of stamped metal terminals each have a resilient cantilever jack contact portion, a wire insulation displacement portion and an intermediate portion between the cantilever jack contact portion and the wire insulation displacement portion. The housing is a one-piece structure overmolded about portions of the stamped metal terminals, with the wire insulation displacement portions exposed for receiving insulated telephone wires. The housing includes a cavity for receiving a standard telephone plug. The cantilever jack contact portions of the terminals are exposed by the overmolded housing adjacent the cavity, whereby the contact portions can be bent into the cavity.

  • Patent number: 5078609
Abstract: A wiring module is provided for use in a jack type electrical connector system and includes an insulative base module having a plurality of holes. At least two sets of electrical circuits are disposed within the thickness of the base module. The two sets of electrical circuits are insulatively separated from each other. Each set includes a plurality of circuits, and each circuit has a lead portion exposed at a side of the base module for electrical connection with a complementary terminal of a mating connector device. Each circuit in each set of circuits includes a contact portion exposed in a respective one of the holes in the base module. Therefore, a terminating device inserted into any one of the holes in the base module will engage a contact portion of one of the circuits in both sets thereof.
