Patent number: 8275411Abstract: A telecommunications device including a laptop computer having a telephony soft client. According to embodiments of the present invention, calls may be received even when the laptop computer is turned off. The laptop computer wakes up responsive to detecting an incoming call. In some embodiments, the system checks on a user presence status before waking up the laptop. In some embodiments, the telephony soft client may be quick booted to allow a user to make an emergency telephone call, without fully booting the laptop computer.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2007Date of Patent: September 25, 2012Assignee: Siemens Enterprise Communications, Inc.Inventors: Marcel Manzardo, William J. Patent number: 8078137Abstract: A telecommunications device includes a laptop computer having a telephony soft client that may run, for example, in a browser window. The telephony soft client includes a utility to allow it to determine the laptop's local external IP address and from it, the local country. The telephony soft client then performs a lookup of the local country's emergency telephone number, either from a local table or from a specially maintained remote database. The local emergency telephone number can then be displayed, or programmed to a “quick dial” key.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2007Date of Patent: December 13, 2011Assignee: Siemens Enterprise Communications, Inc.Inventors: Marcel Manzardo, William J. Patent number: 7506018Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a system, method, apparatus, means, and computer program code for designing a communication system. According to embodiments of the present invention, the communication system may include a number of locations, each of which has a known or expected number of users but an unknown number of needed access points. Each access point in the communication system may be treated as an individual switch with a limited number of connections (e.g., line connections, gateway channels), even though the number of required access points per location is unknown and the number of users per access point is unknown. As part of the design or determination process, inventory information for one or more locations may be determined. The traffic to and from an access point at the location may depend on the inventory information, which can be used to determine the number of access points needed for the location.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2003Date of Patent: March 17, 2009Assignee: Siemens Communications, Inc.Inventor: Marcel Manzardo

Publication number: 20070007151Abstract: A container having a longitudinal dimension may comprise a first pocket member, a second pocket member, and a third pocket member each having substantially the same longitudinal dimension, with the third pocket member being sandwiched between the first and second pocket members. A first pocket may be defined by the second and third pocket members, and a second pocket may be defined by the first and third pocket members. The first, second, and third pocket members may each have a free edge, and the free edges may cooperate with one another to form openings to the first and second pockets.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 8, 2005Publication date: January 11, 2007Inventor: Marcel Manzardo

Publication number: 20060055168Abstract: A container may include a sheet having a first side and a second side. The sheet may be foldable such that a first portion of the first side faces a second portion of the first side. The container may also include a first pocket member connected to the first portion, a second pocket member connected to the second portion, and a third pocket member connected to the second pocket member. The first pocket member and the first portion may cooperate to define a first pocket configured to receive a first portion of printed material. The second pocket member and the second portion may cooperate to define a second pocket configured to receive a second portion of the printed material. The third pocket member and the second pocket member may cooperate to define a third pocket configured to receive at least one media disc.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 10, 2004Publication date: March 16, 2006Inventor: Marcel Manzardo

Patent number: 6735196Abstract: A partial emulation technique in which only the answers to poll frames and uplink information frames, or the slave part of the protocol, are emulated. All messages from the processor are passed down-link, and emulation is dependent upon the contents of an attendant list (452). In operation, the attendant list (452) is built by detecting responses to poll frames from the main controller (401). Once entries are made in the attendant list, partial emulation of responses to down link poll frames and up link information frames for each entry is allowed. No emulation of down link information frames occurs.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2000Date of Patent: May 11, 2004Assignee: Siemens Information & Communication Networks, Inc.Inventor: Marcel Manzardo

Patent number: 6452946Abstract: A method and a system for improving the exchange of data between a master system and multiple slave systems involves bundling multiple abbreviated messages into a single frame and transmitting the single frame across a long delay communications link. The abbreviated messages do not comply with a given transmission protocol such as high-level data link control (HDLC), while the single frame does comply with the transmission protocol. The abbreviated messages are then used to build multiple protocol-compliant frames that are sequentially transmitted across short delay communications links. By bundling multiple abbreviated messages into a single frame, the number of frame transmissions required across the long delay communications link is minimized, while the sequential transmission of protocol-compliant frames to and from the slave systems is accomplished.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1999Date of Patent: September 17, 2002Assignee: Siemens Information and Communications Network, Inc.Inventor: Marcel Manzardo

Patent number: 6449247Abstract: A telecommunications system (20) includes a fail-safe subsystem (22) capable of maintaining call services to remote users in the event of a communication failure. The fail-safe subsystem (22) is coupled to a communication link (16) between a main switch (12) and a remote shelf (14). The subsystem (22) passively monitors the status of the communication link (16). Upon detecting a failure, the subsystem (22) provides a limited set of call services to remote users by providing local switching services. Upon re-establishing communications with the main switch (12), the fail-safe subsystem (22) re-synchronizes the main switch (12) and remote shelf (14) by emulating a conventional call setup procedure for each call placed through the remote shelf (14) during the failure.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 1998Date of Patent: September 10, 2002Assignee: Siemens Information and Communication Networks, Inc.Inventors: Marcel Manzardo, Abid Farooq

Patent number: 6127953Abstract: A data compression/expansion method and apparatus are provided. The data compression apparatus (70) includes a repetitive symbol detector (72), a shift register (74), a FIFO (76), a byte counter (78), and a map buffer (80). The symbol detector (72) generates an output signal indicating the presence of repetitive symbols in an input data segment (10). The shift register (74) functions as a map generator, producing a map (16) for locating the repetitive symbols in the input segment (10). The FIFO (76) acts as a gate for removing the repetitive symbols from the input segment to produce a compressed output segment (14). The compressed segment (14) and map (16) can then be transmitted to the expansion apparatus (90). The data expansion apparatus (90) includes a buffer (92), a shift register (94), and a multiplexer (95). The buffer (92) temporarily stores the compressed segment (14).Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 1998Date of Patent: October 3, 2000Assignee: Siemens Information and Communication Networks, Inc.Inventor: Marcel Manzardo
