  • Patent number: 4776757
Abstract: The turbine comprises orientable vanes or flaps (10b, 10a) respectively forming the distributor and a movable part of the volute of the turbine. These vanes are disposed in such manner that (a) the intrados (15) of one thereof directs the fluid which travels thereover in a path which is no longer in contact with the other, (b) the extrados (14b) of one of the vanes is travelled over by a fluid current which feeds the other vane and (c) the extrados (14a) of the other of the vanes is travelled over by a fluid current entering directly into the turbine only between its shaft (11a) and its trailing edge (13a). The turbine has application in the supercharging of engines of motor vehicles.

  • Patent number: 4733535
Abstract: The camshaft of a turbocharged internal combustion engine is designed to account for the distance between each cylinder and the preceding cylinder in firing order. The camshaft is designed so that the exhaust valve of, say, cylinder number 4 opens at a sufficiently early time that the pressure pulse from opening of the preceding cylinder, say cylinder number 3, arrives at cylinder number 4 when cylinder number 4 is at a predetermined relationship to its top dead center position, where cylinder number 4 immediately follows cylinder number 3 in firing order. The angle at which an exhaust valve cam precedes its top dead center position is determined from the distance to the preceding cylinder through the exhaust system, the speed of sound, the engine speed at which optimization is desired, and the predetermined relationship.

  • Patent number: 4519211
Abstract: This device comprises a turbocompressor C whose turbine 7 has a scroll 8a connected to two pipes 5, 6 each connected to the exhaust of a group of cylinders of the engine. The inlet of the scroll is divided by a partition 10 into two conduits 11, 12 which extend the two pipes 5, 6. A regulating flap 15 is provided and constitutes a movable wall of the scroll and includes two extensions 18, 19 which extend on each side of the partition 10 into the conduits 11, 12. This arrangement avoids the phenomenon of a counter-scavenging in the cylinders of the engine and improves the efficiency of the turbine.

  • Patent number: 4159738
Abstract: The invention relates to assisted flow ventilation heat exchanger systems which comprise heat exchangers disposed at the bottom of a cooling tower with a fan assisted flow and wherein the exchangers are disposed in such a way that they fulfill a distributor function for the fan, i.e. they provide an angular momentum to the cooling fluid which is such as to counteract the angular momentum provided by the fan.

  • Patent number: 3977196
Abstract: The invention concerns an aerocondenser for a thermal power station, comprising, more particularly, a first heat exchanger for reheating the air by exchange of heat with a fluid having a freezing point lower than 0.degree. C, for example, a Freon substance, the respective rates and surfaces of exchange between the fluid having a low freezing point and the water vapor being such that the air is heated to a temperature appreciably above 0.degree. C, before beginning to effect a heat exchange with the water vapor to be condensed.
