Abstract: A saw including a base assembly, and a saw unit moveably mounted on the base assembly. The saw unit is movable towards or away from the base assembly. A pivotal guard is pivotally mounted on the saw unit. The guard can be pivoted from a first position surrounding at least a portion of the lower edge of a saw blade to a second retracted position exposing the portion of the lower edge of the saw blade. A flexible member is connected to the guard for moving the guard from the first position to the second retracted position when the saw unit is pivoted towards the base assembly.

Abstract: A saw having a base assembly having a mounting portion and a saw unit pivotally mounted to the mounting portion. The saw unit is pivotable from an uppermost position away from the base assembly to a lowermost postion towards the base assembly. A locking mechanism locks the saw unit relative to the base assembly when the saw unit is in its uppermost position and in a position closest to the mounting portion.

The saw unit is pivotable towards or away from the base assembly, and has a motor, an output drive spindle rotationally driven by the motor, and a saw blade disposed on the spindle. A pivotal guard is pivotally mounted on the saw unit. The guard is pivotable from a first position where it surrounds at least a portion of a lower edge of the saw blade, to a second retracted position where the portion of the lower edge of the saw blade is exposed. A flexible member is connected to the guard for moving the guard from the first position to the second retracted position when the saw unit is pivoted towards the base assembly.

Abstract: A miter saw includes a base, a table rotatably mounted on the base, and a extension arm rigidly connected to the periphery of the table and extending radially away from the axis of rotation of the table. The angular position of the table relative to the base may be fixed via a locking member mounted on the extension arm. The locking member can be linearly moved relative to the extension arm between a locked position where the angular position of the table is fixed relative to the base, and an unlocked position. The locking member is also pivotable between a locked position where the angular position of the table is fixed relative to the base, and an unlocked position.

Abstract: A planer and thicknesser comprising a frame having a passageway that substantially extends through the frame. The planer and thicknesser further comprises an upper table having front and rear sections mounted on the frame, wherein a slot is located between the front and rear sections of the upper table, and a lower table moveably mounted within the passageway. The planer and thicknesser also comprises a cutting drum rotatably mounted within the frame such that a portion of the cutting drum projects upwardly through the slot and a portion of the cutting drum projects downwardly into the passage way. The planer and thicknesser also comprises a cover mounted above the upper table capable of being moved from a first position where it covers a portion of the cutting drum to a second position where it does not cover a portion of the cutting drum.
