    Assignee: Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft
Inventors: Markus Mauerer, Sebastian Scharner, Andreas Stoermer, Marcus Hafkemeyer
  • Patent number: 9764701
Abstract: A motor vehicle energy storage device includes a first electrical energy store characterized by a first characteristic voltage curve defining the open-circuit voltage of the first energy store depending on the relative charge state and by a first characteristic resistance curve defining the internal resistance of the first energy store relevant for a charge process of the energy store, and a second electrical energy store connected in parallel and characterized by a second characteristic voltage curve defining the open-circuit voltage of the second energy store depending on the relative charge state and by a second characteristic resistance curve defining the internal resistance relevant for a charge process of the second energy store.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 28, 2013
Date of Patent: September 19, 2017
    Assignee: Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft

  • Patent number: 8324754
Abstract: A system is provided for supplying voltage to electrical loads in the onboard electrical system of a motor vehicle, in which system the onboard electrical system includes at least two onboard electrical system regions. The first onboard electrical system region has an electric generator, a vehicle battery, and one or more first electrical loads, and the second onboard electrical system region has a double-layer capacitor or a so-called supercap, and one or more second electrical loads. A blocking apparatus, in particular a semiconductor diode or a circuit breaker, is provided between the two onboard electrical system regions. The blocking apparatus permits current to flow from the first onboard electrical system region to the second onboard electrical system region and largely prevents current from flowing in reverse from the second onboard electrical system region to the first onboard electrical system region.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 3, 2009
Date of Patent: December 4, 2012
    Assignee: Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft

  • Patent number: 7489113
Abstract: An energy storage system for a motor vehicle is provided, including an electric machine, which can be operated at least as a generator, for generating a generator current; a vehicle electrical system battery, which is connected to the electric machine in parallel; a capacitor unit, which is connected to the electric machine in parallel; and a controller for controlling the electric machine. The controller is configured such that if the vehicle is in the boost or braking operating mode, the battery of the vehicle electrical system is charged with a maximum battery charging current, whereas in all other cases the battery of the vehicle electrical system is charged by a battery charging current that is adjusted as a function of the charge state of the battery of the vehicle electrical system. Therefore, in order to adjust the battery charging current as a function of the charge state of the battery of the vehicle electrical system, three different charge states are considered.
