Publication number: 20230155523Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure describe systems, methods, and structures that scavenge mechanical energy to provide electrical energy to a wearable, where the mechanical energy is scavenged by a bending-strain-based transducer that includes a non-resonant energy harvester. By employing a non-resonant energy harvester that operates in bending mode, more electrical energy can be generated that possible with prior-art energy harvesters. In some embodiments, the output of a bending-strain-based transducer element is used for both energy scavenging and as a sensor signal indicative of a user parameter, such as a step, respiration rate, heart rate, weight and the like. In some embodiments, a transducer element includes a plurality of piezoelectric layers that are electrically connected in parallel to increase the energy and/or power provided by the transducer element.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 12, 2023Publication date: May 18, 2023Inventors: Robert G. Andosca, Todd Richard Christenson, Marcus Taylor

In some embodiments the bending-strain-based transducer also includes a sensor and/or a haptic device. Some transducers in accordance with the present disclosure comprise a piezoelectric layer comprising a low-K piezoelectric material, such as aluminum nitride, which enables generation of higher voltage and power/energy output and/or a thinner transducer. As a result, transducers in accordance with the present disclosure can be included in wearables for which large transducer thickness would be problematic, such as sole members (e.g.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 11, 2022Publication date: April 28, 2022Inventors: Robert G. Patent number: 9944506Abstract: A forklift truck with a forward-tilting cab and a method for reducing the container-loading height of the forklift truck, include a cab and a frame, the cab being connected to the frame so as to be able to tilt forward; and also including a locating mechanism, which is removably provided between the cab and frame when the cab is tilted forward to reduce the cab height, so as to locate the cab when the cab is tilted forward to a preset angle. When loading into a container, the cab of the forklift truck is tilted forward to a preset angle, so that the overall height of the forklift truck is reduced to a height suitable for loading in a container, and the locating mechanism is used to locate the cab, so that the cab is kept in a state in which it is tilted forward to a preset angle.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 2016Date of Patent: April 17, 2018Assignee: Linde Material Handling GmbHInventors: Marcus Taylor, Wayne Edmunds, Fenghua Shi, Clayton Greenman, Haihui Lian, Qingrong Xu, Zhihong Wang

Patent number: 9710261Abstract: Techniques to enhance software production are described. An apparatus may include a processor and a memory unit to couple to the processor. The memory unit may store a software build service that when executed by the processor is operative to receive a request to subscribe to the software build service from a software development client, create a virtual software build platform to build a software application, and assign multiple build resources from a resource pool to the virtual software build platform to build the software application, with each of the multiple build resources having one or more assigned affinity relationships for build execution tasks to build the software application. Other embodiments are described and claimed.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 2010Date of Patent: July 18, 2017Assignee: MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLCInventors: Douglas Frankin, Daniel Olewski, Kenneth Jordan, Stephen Faiks, Jason Abbatiello, Marcus Taylor, Philip Davidson, John Bowser, Daniel Doubrovkine

Patent number: 9588002Abstract: This invention is directed to a measurement sensor comprising a radio frequency identification circuit for measuring a parameter. The circuit comprises at least of one component in which a characteristic of that component can be changed to reflect a change in a measured parameter, such that the frequency of the sensor varies according to changes in the measured parameter. The invention extends to a system for measuring a variable parameter that incorporates such a sensor.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2012Date of Patent: March 7, 2017Assignee: Silent Sensors LimitedInventors: Jonathan Ingram, Ashley Duddle, Marcus Taylor

Patent number: 8086442Abstract: Input text may be broken into sentence, or other types of segments, by first detecting exceptions in the input text, and then detecting break positions. Given a segment breaking scheme that comprises a set of break rules and a set of exceptions, a regular expression is created that represents the break rules, and another regular expression is created that represents the exceptions. The input text is analyzed to identify strings that match any exception, and the matching strings are substituted with placeholders that are not likely to occur naturally in the input. The resulting text, with substitutions, is then evaluated to find the positions in the text that match the break rules. Those positions are declared to be segment breaks, and the placeholders are then replaced with the original strings. The result is the original text, with breaks assigned to the appropriate positions in the text.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2010Date of Patent: December 27, 2011Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Enyuan Wu, Alan K. Publication number: 20080147569Abstract: A method for producing quotes in a first currency for a financial instrument traded in a second currency. At least one substantially real time series of currency conversion quotes for converting the second currency to the first currency is received. This series of currency conversion quotes is applied to a currency conversion model adapted to estimate future currency conversion quotes. An offered conversion price within a settlement time window is determined using the estimated future currency conversion quotes. The settlement time window begins at the current time and extends through the financial instrument settlement period. A substantially real time series of quotes for the financial instrument, in the second currency, is received. A substantially current time quote for the financial instrument is multiplied by the offered conversion price to determine a hedged quote for the foreign financial instrument in the first currency. The hedged quote is displayed.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 4, 2007Publication date: June 19, 2008Applicant: PENSON WORLDWIDE, INC.Inventors: MICHAEL ALAN KAHAN, JOHN MORGAN SLADE, DANIEL SETH WILLIAMS, GRANT MARCUS TAYLOR, RALPH BRUCE FERGUSON
