  • Patent number: 5861646
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for processing items moving along a transport path of a document processing system. The apparatus comprises a number of light sources located on one side of the transport path. A number of light sensors is located on the other side of the transport path and is provided for (i) sensing light from the light source transmitted through a variable first location of at least one item moving along the transport path and providing a first sensor output signal indicative of the extent of light transmitted, and (ii) sensing light from the light sources transmitted through a redefined second location of the at least one item moving along the transport path and providing a second sensor output signal indicative of the extent of light transmitted.

  • Patent number: 5519420
Abstract: A system for cleaning documents of dust particles as the documents are moved to a print station in a terminal where an ink jet printer is used to print on the documents. A vacuum manifold is positioned upstream of the print station to clean a document of dust as the document is moved towards the printer. A cyclone dust collector is used to collect the dust particles gathered by the vacuum manifold. An air curtain system provides a curtain of air between the print head of the printer and the face of the document to be printed upon to keep any dust particles left at the print station from coming into contact with the nozzles or jets of the printer.

  • Patent number: 5048986
Abstract: A self-aligning inking roll for a printer which includes an inking roll, an ink transfer roll, a printer, and an endless ribbon mounted on the transfer roll and the printer so as to provide a fresh supply of ink thereto. The inking roll is mounted on an aligner member which is mounted on a support member, with the support member being mounted on an arm which is resiliently biased towards the transfer roll. The aligner member is mounted on the support member at the midpoint of the aligner member so as to provide a fulcrum area which enables the aligner member with the inking roll thereon to pivot and thereby establish a line contact with the transfer roll with the ribbon thereon.

  • Patent number: 4764976
Abstract: A document reader module which provides precise alignment for the document being read and the associated reader, like an optical reader. An integrated frame member provides accurate control surfaces for the precise alignment mentioned. An elevator mechanism mounted on the frame member provides an apparatus for adjusting the read head relative to the line of data on the documents being read. A special pinch roller construction, which can be locked in a retracted position, facilitates the removal of jammed documents from the associated document track.
