  • Patent number: 5186908
Abstract: An improved aromatization apparatus is disclosed in which conversion is increased by recycling a highly purified C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 aliphatic stream. Loss of valuable ethane to fuel gas is substantially eliminated. In a preferred embodiment, a dephlegmator purifies the C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 recycle stream.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: February 16, 1993
    Assignee: Mobil Oil Corporation
Inventors: Margaret Nemet-Mavrodin, John L. Pickering, Jr.
  • Patent number: 5059735
Abstract: The C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 olefin yield is unexpectedly increased while coke and heavy aromatics production are decreased by the addition of a propane-rich supplemental feedstream in a process for catalytically upgrading C.sub.5 -C.sub.7 paraffinic feedstreams. Further benefits include increased conversion of the C.sub.5 -C.sub.7 paraffinic feedstream, decreased coke production and prolonged catalyst useful life. Udex raffinate is a particularly preferred feedstream.

  • Patent number: 5012026
Abstract: A fluid bed catalytic paraffin upgrading process is disclosed. By closely controlling catalyst particle size distribution and density, together with feedstock superficial vapor velocity, the fluid bed is maintained in a turbulent flow regime. Surprisingly, maintaining the fluid bed in a turbulent flow regime shifts the product selectivity away from methane and ethane and toward the more valuable products hydrogen, light olefins and C.sub.5 + gasoline. In the most preferred embodiment, the catalyst contains a dehydrogenation metal component such as gallium, zinc, platinum or rhenium to provide a C.sub.5+ gasoline product rich in aromatics. Catalysts useful in the inventive process include zeolites as well as layered siliceous materials.

  • Patent number: 4990714
Abstract: A process and reactor apparatus are disclosed for upgrading paraffinic feedstocks to olefinic and/or aromatic products. Hydrogen diffuses through a selectively permeable membrane from the reaction zone into a combustion zone where it reacts exothermically with an oxygen-containing fluid to supply at least a portion of the endothermic heat of reaction for the paraffin upgrading process. Additionally, in-situ separation of by-product hydrogen from the reactant mixture in the reaction zone increases yield of valuable olefinic and aromatic products.

  • Patent number: 4922051
Abstract: A process is disclosed for the conversion of C.sub.2 -C.sub.12 paraffinic hydrocarbons to more valuable petrochemical feedstocks including C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 olefins and C.sub.6 -C.sub.8 aromatics in the presence of a composite catalyst comprising a binder and at least one zeolite having a Constraint Index of between about 1 and 12, said composite catalyst having an alpha value of of greater than 5 and less than 33. It has been found that yields of valuable C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 olefins and C.sub.6 -C.sub.8 aromatics are increased by maintaining the composite catalyst alpha value within the claimed range.

  • Patent number: 4918256
Abstract: There is provided a process for converting a C.sub.5 -C.sub.10 paraffinic feedstock such as a Udex reffinate into other hydrocarbons including C.sub.6 -C.sub.8 aromatics, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 olefins, C.sub.9.sup.+ aromatics and C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 paraffins. By using a catalyst comprising (1) a binder and (2) ZSM-5 or ZSM-11, said catalyst having low acid catalytic activity as measured by an alpha value of 25 or less, the selectivity to the more desired C.sub.6 -C.sub.8 aromatics and C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 olefins is increased. The low alpha value of the catalyst may be achieved by deactivating the catalyst under conditions comprising steaming, high temperature calcining and/or coking.

  • Patent number: 4861933
Abstract: A catalytic process is provided for converting a C.sub.3.sup.+ feedstock containing at least 50 wt. % of C.sub.3 to C.sub.12 aliphatic hydrocarbons to aromatics by contacting the feedstock under conversion conditions of a severity resulting in a conversion of at least about 80 wt. % of said hydrocarbons, with a catalyst prepared by loading with gallium a zeolite having a Constraint Index within the approximate range of 1 to 12 and a silica/alumina molar ratio of about 25:1 to 1000:1, and subsequently calcining the catalyst at a temperature of at least about 700.degree. • Patent number: 4808295
Abstract: A process is provided for converting a feedstock comprising a preponderant amount of C.sub.2 -C.sub.10 aliphatic compounds to a product having a high proportion of benzene in a two stage process, with the effluent from the first stage passing directly to the second stage, i.e., with no intermediate processing such as purification or separation. In the first stage, the feedstock is contacted under suitable conversion conditions with a catalyst comprising an aluminosilicate zeolite having a Constraint Index in the approximate range of 1 to 12 and a degree of acidity indicated by an alpha value of at least about 3.

  • Patent number: 4704492
Abstract: In a process wherein the vinyl acetylenes present as an impurity in a stream of butadienes are removed by hydrogenating the stream over a catalyst the loss of butadiene is lessened and catalyst aging is diminished by injecting the hydrogen in reduced quantities into a series of smaller catalyst beds connected in series.
