  • Patent number: 9507385
Abstract: A portable information handling system keyboard rests on a support surface of a housing with securing actions taken from above the housing, such as by screws that insert through the keyboard and then into the housing. A lattice cover having key openings fits over the keyboard to align adapters of its bottom surface with posts extending from the support surface through openings formed in the keyboard. The adapters snap to the posts to couple the cover against the keyboard so that the cover bottom surface presses the keyboard against the information handling systems upper support surface.

  • Publication number: 20090231805
Abstract: A bumper extending from a portable information handling system chassis aligns with a recess on a lid of the information handling system to maintain the lid in position when the lid closes against the chassis, such as in a closed position or a tablet position. The bumper has a rigid material that couples to the chassis covered at the exposed portion of the bumper by a non-rigid material that interacts with the lid. The non-rigid material absorbs shocks translated through the lid and chassis, and reduces the risk of damage to lid cosmetic features. The rigid portion provides a secure coupling of the bumper to the chassis.

  • Patent number: 7239504
Abstract: A portable information handling system such as a laptop computer includes a chassis having a pivotally mounted top. The chassis includes a keyboard and the top includes a display panel. The top and chassis are connected by a hinge. A hinge cap is releasably attached directly to the hinge and the hinge is mounted on the chassis. A loose fit of the hinge cap on the hinge permits the hinge cap to float relative to the hinge. Each of the hinge cap and a chassis cover plate include a mating, tapered surface so that when the hinge cap seats in the cover plate, the location of the hinge cap relative to the chassis cover plate is determined by the mating engagement.

  • Patent number: 6762933
Abstract: A selective card insertion apparatus includes a carrier having a first card slot and a second card slot formed therein. The first card slot is separated from the second card slot. The first card slot includes a first end and a second end. A connector is provided at the second end. A stop is positioned between the first end and the connector for permitting insertion of a first card and for stopping insertion of a second card.

  • Patent number: 6129395
Abstract: A laptop computer includes a base member and a lid member pivotally attached to the base member. A latch member is mounted in the lid member. The latch member includes a top, a bottom, and opposite sides. A hook member protrudes from the top of the latch member. A spring retaining member is positioned adjacent the bottom of the latch member. A pair of flexible snap-in members are positioned on the opposite sides. A first one of the flexible snap-in members is positioned on a first one of the sides and a second one of the flexible snap-in members is positioned on a second one of the sides. The spring retaining member is positioned between the flexible snap-in members. The base member includes a receiver for receiving the hook member.

  • Patent number: 6091601
Abstract: A slide snap-in bobbin for a flex cable assembly on a portable computer is described. In one embodiment, the slide snap-in bobbin includes a tubular portion in which the flex cable is housed and a C-shaped portion connected to the tubular portion via a fin that holds the C-shaped portion past one end of the tubular portion. An elongated slot in the tubular portion is provided for permitting one end of the flex cable to be passed out of the tubular portion for connection to an LCD. The C-shaped portion includes a small, e.g., 1 millimeter, opening having arcuate lead-in features disposed on either side thereof for entry access to a mounting screw boss disposed on the display housing. The opening enables the bobbin to deflect the width of the boss until the opening is wide enough to accommodate the entire diameter of the boss, at which point the bobbin is snapped onto the boss and the C-shaped portion returns to its normal state.
