Abstract: A new segment of electronic handwriting is provided to a handwriting recognition module to obtain a plurality of textual interpretations of the new segment. The textual interpretations obtained from the handwriting recognition module are scored based on how each respective electronic handwriting representation would change a display of existing electronic content when the respective electronic handwriting representation is displayed substantially at the user designated position within or adjacent to the existing electronic content. Based on the scoring, an electronic handwriting representation corresponding to a respective textual interpretation of the plurality of textual interpretations is selected, and the existing electronic content is modified to include the selected electronic handwriting representation located substantially at the user designated position.

In one aspect, a method includes invoking an assistant tool, displaying an assistant window on a device display, receiving an indication of a selection of content on the display, generating a query for information associated with the selected content, receiving ranked results from the query, and displaying the received results in the assistant window. In one aspect, a snapshot of the selected content is captured and displayed with the results. In one aspect, a method includes receiving an indication of one or more words being written on the display and providing at least one suggested completion of a word or sentence being written. Systems and machine-readable media are also provided.

Abstract: A pen-enabled editor application for an electronic device is disclosed that provides adaptive guidelines for handwritten text. The adaptive guidelines are generated, in real time with the handwritten text, to allow the user to take advantage of the freeform input possibilities of a blank page, while still benefiting from the neatness and organization that results from writing on a lined page. The adaptive guidelines are generated and have a location and a length that changes with measured aspects of the handwritten input text, as the text is written. The handwritten input text may be provided by a pen device interacting with a display device of the electronic device.

Abstract: A note-taking application may be provided as a unified package that includes a full application for an unlocked state of the device, and a limited application for a locked state of the device. A user may perform a trigger action, such as swiping down from a corner, when the device is in a standby mode or displaying a lock screen. In response to the trigger action, the device may execute the limited application, allowing the user to write notes while the device remains in a locked state. The limited application accesses a sandboxed local note store with configurable note persistence, but can communicate with the full application by using secure API calls.
