Patent number: 10190289Abstract: A method for monitoring wear of a ground-engaging tool associated with a machine in relation to productivity of the machine is disclosed. The ground-engaging tool defines an inner cavity and a first wall. The method includes receiving a first characteristic signal associated with the first wall from a first sensor, the first sensor operatively associated with the first wall. The method further includes receiving one or more productivity metrics associated with the machine from a performance monitoring system, the performance monitoring system operatively associated with the machine. The method further includes determining a first dimension of the ground-engaging tool based on the first characteristic signal, determining a first wear metric of the ground-engaging tool based on the first dimension, and correlating the first wear metric and the one or more productivity metrics.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2016Date of Patent: January 29, 2019Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Solimar Reyes-Rodriguez, Maria Cristina Herrera De Kontz, Aloke Jude Mascarenhas

Patent number: 10008095Abstract: A system for monitoring presence of a ground-engaging tool relative to a machine, on a worksite, is disclosed. The system includes a sensor operatively coupled to the ground-engaging tool, a signal receiver, and a controller. The sensor is configured to transmit an identifying wireless signal. The controller is configured to receive a received signal from the signal receiver; the received signal based on the identifying wireless signal and having a signal power. The controller is configured to determine a signal attenuation power of the received signal, based on the signal power relative to the transmission power, determine a relative location of the ground-engaging tool and one or more fault conditions based on the signal attenuation power, and determine if the ground-engaging tool is connected to the machine based on the relative location of the ground-engaging tool and the existence of one or more fault conditions.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2016Date of Patent: June 26, 2018Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Solimar Reyes-Rodriguez, Maria Cristina Herrera De Kontz, Aloke Jude Mascarenhas

Publication number: 20170103506Abstract: A component health monitoring system may include an optical system configured to irradiate an area containing a work implement and including a surface of a component to be inspected in a position mounted on the work implement, and a sensor configured to capture a target image of the area. An image processor may receive the target image from the sensor and analyze the target image, determine a first feature set including directional changes in image intensity for the target image, retrieve a reference image from a memory, and determine a second feature set for the reference image. The image processor may also build and train a model for use by a classifier that segregates feature sets determined from a plurality of target images into a first classification that includes features that characterize a portion of an image including the component with dimensions that fall within acceptable thresholds, and a second classification.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 9, 2015Publication date: April 13, 2017Applicant: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Venkata Bhagavathi DANDIBHOTLA, Aloke Jude MASCARENHAS, Maria Cristina HERRERA DE KONTZ

Publication number: 20160299511Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for identifying and remedying undue dust conditions. According to certain embodiments, weather data is received over a network. A parametric dust model is generated based on the received weather data. Moreover, a fluid delivery plan is developed based on the parametric dust model.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 7, 2015Publication date: October 13, 2016Applicant: CATERPILLAR INC.Inventors: Maria Cristina Herrera de KONTZ, Aloke Jude MASCARENHAS, Matthew Edward KONTZ, Jeffrey Lee KUEHN

Publication number: 20160299111Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for assessing environmental conditions. According to certain embodiments, environmental data is received from a machine traveling through a first location and a second location. The environmental data includes first environmental data associated with the first location and second environmental data associated with the second location. Environmental conditions associated with a third location may be interpolated based on the first and second environmental data.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 7, 2015Publication date: October 13, 2016Applicant: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Maria Cristina Herrera de KONTZ, Aloke Jude MASCARENHAS, Matthew Edward KONTZ, Jeffrey Lee KUEHN

Publication number: 20160298306Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for remedying undue dust conditions. According to certain embodiments, a parametric dust model is accessed. The parametric dust model may include a plurality of locations within a worksite and a dust condition associated with each location. A fluid delivery requirement may be determined for each of the plurality of locations based on the parametric dust model. Moreover, a fluid delivery plan may be generated based on the determined fluid delivery requirements. The fluid delivery plan may include a route for delivering fluid to the plurality of locations using a fluid delivery machine.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 7, 2015Publication date: October 13, 2016Applicant: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Maria Cristina Herrera de KONTZ, Aloke Jude MASCARENHAS, Matthew Edward KONTZ, Jeffrey Lee KUEHN
