Patent number: 11086401Abstract: A mechanism is provided for virtually rendering a portion of a three-dimensional (3D) object to a user via a tactile display. The mechanism receives a selection of the 3D object to be virtually rendered to a user. The mechanism identifies a subset of cells of a plurality of cells that form the tactile display required to virtually render a portion of the 3D object that will be virtually contacted by the tactile display. The mechanism selectively controls a fluid flow to the subset of cells that form the tactile display to render a sensation associated with the portion of the 3D object on skin of the user wearing the tactile display, wherein the fluid flow to each cell the subset of cells is provided via one or more electrostatic accelerator pumps.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 2020Date of Patent: August 10, 2021Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Francisco J. Alanis, Edgar Cantu, Maria D. Garza, Carlos F. Gomez

Patent number: 9563481Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer program product are provided in a data processing system for performing a logical partition migration utilizing multiple mover service partition pairs. Responsive to a virtual machine monitor initiating a logical partition migration operation to move a logical partition from a source system to a destination system, a plurality of input/output paths are established between a plurality of mover service partition pairs. The virtual machine monitor performs the logical partition migration operation using the plurality of mover service partition pairs to transfer a memory image of the logical partition from the source system to the destination system to effect the logical partition migration operation. Responsive to failure of one of the plurality of input/output paths, the virtual machine monitor may complete the logical partition migration operation using at least one remaining mover service partition pair.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 2013Date of Patent: February 7, 2017Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Maria D. Garza, Neal R. Marion, Nathaniel S. Tomsic, Vasu Vallabhaneni

Patent number: 9329882Abstract: A mechanism is provided in a data processing system for logical partition migration. Responsive to a virtual machine monitor initiating a logical partition migration operation to move a logical partition from a source system to a destination system, the mechanism reallocates a portion of processing resources from the logical partition to the virtual machine monitor. The virtual machine monitor uses the portion of processing resources to effect the logical partition migration operation. Responsive to completion of the logical partition migration operation, the mechanism returns the portion of processing resources to the logical partition.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2013Date of Patent: May 3, 2016Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Maria D. Garza, Neal R. Marion, James A. Pafumi, Morgan J. Rosas

Patent number: 9286132Abstract: A mechanism is provided in a data processing system for performing a logical partition migration utilizing multiple paths. Responsive to a virtual machine monitor initiating a logical partition migration operation to move a logical partition from a source system to a destination system, the mechanism allocates a plurality of memory pools and a plurality of threads from a mover service partition to the virtual machine monitor. The virtual machine monitor performs the logical partition migration operation utilizing each of the plurality of threads to transfer a corresponding one of the plurality of memory pools from the source system to the destination system to effect the logical partition migration operation.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2013Date of Patent: March 15, 2016Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Maria D.
