    Abstract: A provisioning mechanism installed at a customer premise equipment (CPE) device capable of Voice over Packet (VoP) communication permits provisioning of the CPE device by an auto configuration server (ACS). The provisioning mechanism includes a Capabilities object associated with the CPE device, the Capabilities object including one or more of the following: one or more fax related parameters indicative of whether the CPE device supports fax related capabilities; and a ModemPassThrough parameter indicative of whether the CPE device supports modem pass through.
