  • Patent number: 8960223
Abstract: A valve device is provided for controlling air flow. The valve device includes a plug closure member having an interior chamber and a stop device positioned within the interior chamber of the plug closure member. The valve device further includes a check valve having a plate positioned adjacent an inlet opening of the plug closure member and an alignment device attached to the plate and received within a stop opening of the stop device. The check valve is movable between a closed position in which the plate limits passage of a lift air through the interior chamber and an open position in which the plate allows passage of the lift air through the interior chamber. The stop device engages the check valve in the open position.

  • Publication number: 20090032762
Abstract: A ball valve (10) is disclosed with an orifice (58) to control the flow of fluids in which the downstream seal (52) is never directly exposed to erosive wear from the fluid flow. The orifice (58) is only open in a limited range of the ball (42) rotation. Upon rotation of the ball (42) from the full closed position, the orifice starts to open on the outlet side (62) first and after the outlet orifice is fully open the orifice opens to the inlet side (60). The size of the opening on the inlet side (60) can be adjusted to control the flow rate of fluid through the orifice (58) in the ball (42). When closing the valve, the inlet side closes first and then the outlet side. The orifice (58) of the ball (42) thus passes the outlet seal (52) under no-flow conditions, and gross erosion of the outlet seal can be avoided.

  • Patent number: 6892748
Abstract: A shield for a plug valve is provided to prevent debris from hindering the movement of moving components of the plug valve. The shield prevents larger sized debris from accumulating at an opening in a wall in which the plug valve is mounted, the wall defining a confined space, such as the interior of a vessel, at least in part. The shield encloses but is spaced from the plug valve and a device is located within a space between the shield and the plug valve for directing a purging gas through the space to sweep away or purge smaller sized debris from the space.

  • Patent number: 6354324
Abstract: A slide valve for control of product flow through it in which the valve internals are maintained in position by a stub welded to the orifice plate which in turn is welded to an internal end of the support cone and may be released and removed through the bonnet area of the slide valve by cutting the weld between the stub and support cone, and replaced through the bonnet area and rewelding the remaining portions of the stub to the support cone.

  • Patent number: 6170528
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved assembly of orifice chambers for reducing pressure of large gas flows effective to reduce noise of the gas flows and wear on orifice chambers by progressive pressure drops in the gas flows through successive orifice plates which are releasably secured, preferably by fillet welding, in each of the orifice chambers, removal of one or more orifice plates in an orifice chamber providing manway access to the next succeeding orifice chamber for inspection, repairs, and replacement of the orifice plates thereby reducing the manway opening or access to only one orifice chamber and eliminating separate access manways or manholes for each of the orifice chamber necessary for maintenance of the orifice chambers. Preferably, an internal shell providing an annular space with the body to which the orifice plates are connected is connected to the body by an annular ring and brace by fillet welding in compressions.

  • Patent number: 6050288
Abstract: Disclosed is a slide valve for control of product flow through it in which the valve internals, an orifice plate and guide assembly, are maintained in position by a circumferentially extending attachment stub surrounding and welded to a circumferentially extending weld-on stub welded to the orifice plate, the circumferentially extending attachment stub being welded to an internal end of the support cone and to the weld-on stub whereby the internals may be released and removed through the bonnet area of the slide valve by cutting the weld between the attachment stub and the weld-on stub, and replaced through the bonnet area and rewelding the weld-on stub and the attachment stub with another fillet weld. This places the fillet weld under compression rather than under tension, and is much stronger than the tension fillet welds in previous embodiments of this slide valve. Also, the refractory material when used can be finished in the shop rather than on site.

  • Patent number: 5979870
Abstract: The present invention constitutes an improvement over U.S. Pat. No. 5,269,493, and other butterfly valves controlling the flow of hot gases or other fluids under high pressures or velocities by having the valve stem not centered in which there is either no deflection or the deflection of the butterfly valve and rotation of the valve stem is substantially reduced when in a closed position resulting in no or substantially reduced leakage of the disc in closed position with respect to prior art butterfly valves currently in comparable use.

  • Patent number: RE36121
Abstract: Disclosed is a plug valve adapted to be placed in a chamber or vessel containing fluidized particles to control flow of the fluidized particles between the chamber or vessel and the open end of a conduit which has a contained purging system in a sealed space between the valve stem and guide tube effective to keep the fluidized particles out of the space. A purging medium is provided under pressure to the sealed space as a backup and only purges the space of fluidized particles which enter it due to leakage of one or both of the stuffing boxes. Other features of the plug valve are described.
