  • Patent number: 6113617
Abstract: This invention relates to a medical scalpel (10) that comprises a grip (20) and a scalpel blade (30) located on a blade carrier (40). The grip (20) and the blade carrier (40) are hingedly connected to each other by means of a hinge formation extending transversely to the principal axis of the scalpel. The blade carrier (40) is rotatable between an operative position, in which the blade (30) is exposed for use, and an inoperative position, in which the blade (30) is retained in a recess (22) formed in the grip (20). The blade carrier (40) is preferably adapted for one time rotation to and retention in the inoperative position of the blade (30) by engagement formations formed in corresponding surfaces of the blade carrier (40) and the grip (20). The scalpel is integrally moulded in injection moulded plastics material in which the hinge formation is constituted by an integrally moulded line of weakness (50) formed between the blade carrier and the grip.

  • Patent number: 5843030
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for administering a fluid medicament to an infant via a teat in fluid flow communication with a reservoir for the fluid medicament, characterised in that the device comprises:a. a teat having an inlet at or adjacent its proximal end to receive fluid from the reservoir and an outlet at or adjacent its distal end through which fluid fed to the teat from the reservoir is adapted to flow into the mouth of a user;b. a conduit within the teat directly connecting the said inlet to the said outlet for the direct flow of fluid medicament from the reservoir to the outlet of the teat;c. an intermediate member located intermediate the proximal end of the teat and the reservoir and adapted to securely receive and locate the teat and to receive the reservoir;d. a reservoir formed integrally with, or demountably secured to, the said intermediate member and being in fluid flow communication via said intermediate member and said conduit with said teat outlet.

  • Patent number: 5423756
Abstract: The present invention provides a needle receiving member adapted to separate a needle from a syringe and to contain the said needle, the needle receiving member being characterized in that it comprises:a. an axially elongated member having an axially extending needle receiving chamber therein, the member having an axial aperture in a wall thereof through which the needle can be inserted at least in part transversely into the chamber: and in thatb. the needle receiving member incorporates means for separating the needle from a syringe body. The invention also provides a syringe in which the plunger which drives the piston of the syringe is formed so as to provide the needle receiving member, preferably in part of the plunger shaft which can be separated from the remainder of the plunger shaft by a frangible one use connection so that the syringe can be disabled both by removal of the needle and breaking the plunger mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5318537
Abstract: A syringe has a piston member which slides in a piston bore. The piston member is driven into the bore using a plunger so as to discharge a substance in the syringe through a needle. The plunger is connected to the piston member by a one use connection which breaks when the syringe has been completely discharged or if an attempt is made to reuse the syringe. The plunger also provides a receptacle for receiving and containing the syringe needle when this has been detached from the syringe end, after use.
