Abstract: A liquid shim includes a bag (24) defining a closed inner volume and having sealed openings spaced inwardly from a periphery of the bag. The sealed openings are sealed from the closed inner volume and delimit holes extending through the bag. A liquid shim material (22) is flowable through the closed inner volume around the sealed openings and is curable to form a solid. The liquid shim material has a liquid shim material volume being less than the closed inner volume of the bag. A method of creating a liquid shim, and a method of shimming a gap between components, is also disclosed.

Abstract: In the manufacture of a noise attenuation panel for an aeroengine nacelle an adhesive film is applied to a front face of a cellular component of the panel. The adhesive film is caused to reticulate to the ends of the walls of the cells at the front face of the cellular component. A perforate facing component of the panel is bonded to the front face of the cellular component by adhesive flow from the cell walls to the facing component. To avoid unpredictable adhesive flow giving rise to cosmetic spots on the front face of the facing component the two components are brought together with the interposition of an adhesive flow control sheet and the reticulated adhesive caused to bond the two components together by adhesive flow under the control of the adhesive flow control sheet.

Abstract: A filament reinforced perforate composite sheet is manufactured by forming a filament assembly which includes reinforcing filament structures and passage forming filament structures and in which the passage forming filament structures extend from the front face to the rear face of the assembly, applying a matrix material to the assembly to form a composite sheet in which the passage forming filament structures extend from the front face to the rear face of the sheet and removing the passage forming filament structures or a part or parts thereof to produce a multiplicity of passages extending through the composite sheet.
