  • Patent number: 5244780
Abstract: A polymeric film substrate is first modified, then coated with a polyalkyl acrylate/gelatin layer to improve the wet adhesion of the layer to the substrate. The layer may itself contain a photographic emulsion or emulsion layers may be adhered to that layer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 28, 1991
Date of Patent: September 14, 1993
Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company
Inventors: Mark A. Strobel, Robert L. Carlson, Steven L. Ginkel, Jeffrey L. Solomon
  • Patent number: 4844979
Abstract: The receptivity of shaped polymer articles (e.g., self-supporting films of polypropylene) to subsequently applied organic coatings is enhanced by exposure to an electrical discharge in the presence of a chlorocarbon or chlorofluorocarbon gas, thereby providing an extremely thin chlorine-containing surface layer in which the Cl:C ratio is inversely related to the distance from the face of the layer. Preferred embodiments of the invention include tape products in which the primed surface of the backing is coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive or a low adhesion backsize.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 13, 1986
Date of Patent: July 4, 1989
Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company
Inventors: Mark A. Strobel, Krishnakant P. Vora
