Publication number: 20240078916Abstract: Aerial vehicles are assigned to routes within a transportation network based on a state of charge, state of power, and/or state of health for the aerial vehicle. Such aspects can be modeled based on one or more statistical models and/or machine-learned models, among other examples. As another example, an energy budget is used to ensure that the state of charge, state of power, and/or state of health of the aerial vehicle during and/or after traveling the route remains within the energy budget. A payload is assigned to a route and an associated aerial vehicle, thereby generating an itinerary. In examples, the itinerary is validated by the aerial vehicle to ensure that the aerial vehicle is capable of traveling the route with the payload. In examples where the aerial vehicle rejects the itinerary, the itinerary is assigned to another aerial vehicle and a new itinerary is identified for the aerial vehicle.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 21, 2023Publication date: March 7, 2024Inventors: Adam Thomas Chase, Ian Andreas Villa, Luke Asher Wilhelm, Jon Petersen, Robert Alan McDonald, Mark Douglass Moore, Celina Mikolajczak

Publication number: 20240002034Abstract: A ducted wing is configured to be connected to an aircraft. The ducted wing includes an array of integrated jetfoils. Each jetfoil includes a propulsor fan, an upper wing portion, and a lower wing portion that extends past an end of the upper wing portion. Each jetfoil includes a duct formed between the upper wing portion and the lower wing portion where the propulsor is within the duct. Furthermore, each jetfoil may have one or more flaps at the leading edge or the trailing edge of the jetfoil. The jetfoil may have flaps that control either the inlet area or the outlet area of the propulsor fan as well as flaps that control whether the aircraft can operate in one of a plurality of different takeoff modes.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 9, 2023Publication date: January 4, 2024Inventors: Mark Douglass Moore, Ian Andreas Villa, Devon Jedamski, Andrew Stephen Hahn, Xiaofan Fei, Aaron Timothy Perry

Publication number: 20240002076Abstract: A drone is disclosed having a low acoustic signature. The drone includes a fuselage, a main inboard wing attached to the fuselage, a pylon located towards an aft end of the fuselage and having an end that is higher than the main inboard wing, and a propulsor connected to the pylon and situated above the fuselage. The drone includes a plurality of booms connected to the main inboard wing and a plurality of horizontal tails attached to the plurality of booms. The horizontal tails have an outboard tail arrangement and are tiltable.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 9, 2023Publication date: January 4, 2024Inventors: Mark Douglass Moore, Ian Andreas Villa, Sayer Fisher, Devon Jedamski, Xiaofan Fei, Andrew Stephen Hahn

Patent number: 11802485Abstract: A propulsor fan array having reduced noise emission is disclosed. The propulsor fan array includes a plurality of propulsor fans that collectively generate thrust. Each of the propulsor fans include a blade fan having a plurality of blades. The plurality of blades are tensioned at tips of the plurality of blade fans such that a pitch of the blades during thrust generation is substantially the same as a pitch of the blades at rest. By tensioning the tips of the blades, an angle of the blades is maintained during operation of the propulsor fan thereby reducing noise that may result from changes in the angle of the blades.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 2022Date of Patent: October 31, 2023Assignee: Whisper Aero Inc.Inventors: Mark Douglass Moore, Ian Andreas Villa, Devon Jedamski, Xiaofan Fei

Publication number: 20220349361Abstract: A propulsor system comprising a propulsor and an exhaust area control mechanism are described. The exhaust area control mechanism is connected to an outlet of the propulsor and is configured to vary the area through which air exits the propulsor system.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 24, 2022Publication date: November 3, 2022Inventors: Mark Douglass Moore, Ian Andreas Villa, Devon Jedamski

Patent number: 5835759Abstract: A computer application stored on a storage medium (e.g., a portable storage medium such as a compact disk) is automatically launched. Initialization information expressed in accordance with a predefined syntax is stored on the storage medium. Also stored in the computer is "launching" information sufficient, together with the initialization information, to enable the computer to launch the application. The application is automatically launched, without user intervention, by reading the initialization information and using it in connection with the launching information stored in the computer.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1997Date of Patent: November 10, 1998Assignee: Compaq Computer CorporationInventors: Mark Douglass Moore, David M. Burckhartt, Drew S. Johnson, Norman P. Brown, Randall L. Hess
