  • Patent number: 11604307
Abstract: A dark mirror optical stack, particularly a low emittance, high absorbance dark mirror optical stack is provided. The dark mirror optical stack includes a polyimide substrate containing carbon filler, an aluminum layer on the polyimide substrate, a first silicon oxide layer on the aluminum layer, a chromium layer on the first silicon oxide layer, and a second silicon oxide layer on the chromium layer. In a particularly exemplary embodiment, the aluminum layer has an average thickness of 600 to 2000 Angstroms, the first and second silicon oxide layers have average thicknesses of 500 to 1000 Angstroms, and the chromium layer has an average thickness of 40 to 100 Angstroms.

  • Patent number: 11219922
Abstract: A method is provided to form a dust mitigation coating that also mitigates or repels water, ice, and other liquids. Techniques to coat the surfaces of equipment and items with these dust, liquid, and ice mitigation coatings, minimize or eliminate mission problems caused by dust, liquid, or ice accumulation, particularly in outer space or on another planetary body or moon. Further, the dust mitigation coatings exhibit a Lotus-like effect, making the coated surfaces ultra-hydrophobic. The present invention is also directed to techniques for improving the functioning of terrestrial-based equipment and systems where dust, liquid, or ice accumulation is a problem, such as in hospitals and other health contexts, to prevent contamination.

  • Patent number: 10919268
Abstract: A laminate has a composite coating on a reflective substrate. The composite coating includes a stack of metal oxide trilayers on the substrate, where each metal oxide trilayer includes a layer of aluminum oxide; a layer of silicon oxide; and a layer of indium tin oxide. The composite coating also includes a stack of metal oxide bilayers on the metal oxide trilayer stack, each metal oxide bilayer including a layer of aluminum oxide and a layer of silicon oxide.

  • Patent number: 6623826
Abstract: Thermal apparatus that reduces passive intermodulation products generated on a satellite or other spaceborne vehicle. Exemplary passive intermodulation free thermal blankets comprise a reflector stack including multiple polyimide layers with metallized film on one side thereof, a binding layer that secures the reflector stack together, and an outer cover layer that wraps around the binding layer and reflector stack to cover an outer surface of the thermal blanket and form a hem on an inner surface of the thermal blanket. Multiple small thermal blankets or patches may be bound together using grounding inserts and polyimide tape to form a quilt-like assembly. The quilt-like assembly is enclosed by an outer cover layer that wraps around the multiple patches to cover one surface thereof and form a hem on an opposite surface thereof.
