Publication number: 20170328280Abstract: A heat sink for location in a fluid flow, including a heat sink base and a plurality of heat dissipating elements, such as elongate fins, extending from the surface of the heat sink base. In certain arrangements the heat sink is provided with a diversion flow passageway for diverting a fraction of fluid flow away from the heat dissipating elements. In other arrangements there may be two arrays of elongate fins laterally offset. In yet a further arrangement the heat sink may be configured to promote the generation of at least one vortex.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 24, 2017Publication date: November 16, 2017Applicant: ROLLS-ROYCE plcInventors: Zahid M HUSSAIN, Christopher T J SHEAF, Mark J WILSON, David G MACMANUS

Patent number: 8876425Abstract: A sleeve is placed between a first body and second body, where the first body and the second body are different materials. The sleeve is a third material that is at least similar to the material of the first body, and a mechanical connection is made between the sleeve and the second body. The mechanical connection has a locking abutment where the surface of the sleeve is angled toward the end of the second body that is in the union, and this angled surface of the sleeve abuts the second body. A first connection substance is positioned between the sleeve and the first body, and a second connection substance is positioned between the sleeve and the second body.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 2012Date of Patent: November 4, 2014Assignee: Shoals Tubular Products, Inc.Inventor: Mark J. Patent number: 7997872Abstract: The suction surface blade angle of a transonic fan blade, subject in use to a shock wave, progressively reduces along part of the suction surface, beginning at a position upstream of the shock wave position. The increased area variation at the location of the shock results in the shock position becoming less sensitive to small geometric imperfections. The reduced shock sensitivity reduces the variation in aerodynamic load and hence reduces the untwist variation with respect to small geometric imperfections. This has the effect of stabilising the untwist deflections of the fan.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2007Date of Patent: August 16, 2011Assignee: Rolls-Royce PLCInventor: Mark J. Wilson

Patent number: 7537204Abstract: Systems and methods for processing sheets, statements, and/or inserts prior to mailing are provided. One sheet processing system includes a receiver adapted to receive first and second single page sheets to be processed. The first sheet originates from a stack of first sheets, and the second sheet originates from a stack of second sheets. In some systems, the first and second sheets are of different sizes. The system includes a first read head adapted to read a first identifier from the first sheet, and a second read head adapted to read a second identifier from the second sheet. A circuit coupled to the first and second read heads is adapted to compare the first and second identifiers to determine whether a match exists. At least one identifier may include a magnetic stripe.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 2007Date of Patent: May 26, 2009Assignee: First Data CorporationInventors: Jay E. Greene, III, Jeff G. Nowlin, Fred C. Casto, Scott J. Smith, Timothy J. Walpus, Mark J. Wilson

Patent number: 7284749Abstract: Systems and methods for processing sheets, statements, and/or inserts prior to mailing are provided. One sheet processing system includes a receiver adapted to receive first and second sheets to be processed. The first sheet originates from a stack of first sheets or a continuous form sheet, and the second sheet originates from a stack of second sheets or a continuous form sheet. The system includes a first read head adapted to read a first identifier from the first sheet, and a second read head adapted to read a second identifier from the second sheet. A circuit coupled to the first and second read heads is adapted to compare the first and second identifiers to determine whether a match exists. In this manner, the sheet processing system is able to confirm that the first and second sheets are both intended to be sent to the same customer.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 2004Date of Patent: October 23, 2007Assignee: First Data CorporationInventors: Jay E. Patent number: 5697783Abstract: An adjustable band for orthodontic use which is formed of a strip of relatively soft material, such as annealed metal or flexible plastic, is provided. In one embodiment, one end of the band contains tabs which are formed into a shackle and flexible projections. The other end of the band comprises a tang which contains rectangular indentations into which the projections fit. In another embodiment of the invention, the band is formed in a one-piece construction of molded plastic. The band of the second embodiment comprises a strip having a tang portion on one end and a shackle portion on its opposite end, where the shackle incorporates a slot through which the tang can be inserted. In both embodiments, when the tang is placed into the shackle, a cylindrical loop is formed which can be placed over a tooth and drawn into approximately the diameter of the tooth. Further tightening creates forces which shape the band around the tooth to match the contour of the tooth.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: December 16, 1997Assignee: Mark J. Patent number: 5522086Abstract: A mechanism is provided for software configuration of ISA bus cards or other devices connected to a computer processor by a bus that does not provide for sharing of an address by multiple devices. Such a device is configured under software control by selecting multiple addresses commonly used by a read-only device, writing from the computer processor to the configuration logic at one of such addresses a predetermined data word as part of a predetermined security access sequence, writing from the computer processor to the configuration logic at one of the addresses configuration information including a device based address, and the configuration logic, in response to the predetermined security access sequence, storing the configuration information in configuration registers, thereby configuring the device. The addresses used may be addresses used by a game device, such as a joystick.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1993Date of Patent: May 28, 1996Assignee: Sierra Semiconductor Canada, Inc.Inventors: Mitchell G.
