  • Patent number: 6591848
Abstract: A parasol control device includes a shaft rotatably received in aligned holes defined in a central rod of the parasol. A handle is coupled to a first end of the shaft for manually rotating the shaft. A rope is fastened to the shaft whereby when the shaft is rotated, the rope is wound to/unwound from the shaft for opening/closing the parasol. A ratchet wheel defines a central bore tightly fit over the shaft whereby a friction is present between the ratchet wheel and the shaft. A block is attached to the rod and defines a bore for rotatably supporting the shaft. A blind hole is defined in the block with a spring biased pin received in the blind hole. A free end of the pin engages with the teeth of the ratchet for generating consecutive impact sounds when the shaft is rotated in a first direction to open the parasol. When the shaft is rotated in an opposite second direction to close the parasol, the ratchet wheel is prevented from rotation by the pin.

  • Publication number: 20030015231
Abstract: An umbrella crown includes a crown body having a base plate with a threaded cylindrical projection extending from a first surface of the plate for engaging an inner-threaded cap. A circular groove is defined in the first surface of the base plate and a corresponding rib is formed in the cap whereby the rib can be received in the groove for interposing and securing an edge of a canopy therebetween. A conic projection extends from a second surface of the base plate and has a reduced free end with a bore defined therein to be tightly fit over a central post of the umbrella. A plurality of radially-extending slits is defined in the conic projection with a cross bar formed in each slit. Ribs that support the canopy have J-shaped ends respectively received in the slits and engaging the cross bars for forming pivotal joint between the ribs and the crown. The ribs are maintained in position by the central post. A slot is defined in the conic projection by two opposite side walls.

  • Patent number: 6311705
Abstract: A tilt control device is incorporated in a parasol for controlling tilting angle of a canopy of the parasol with respect to a central post of the parasol. The central post includes an upper segment to which the canopy is attached and a lower segment pivoted to the upper segment fir supporting the canopy. The tilt control device includes an operating ring rotatably mounted on the lower segment and forming an inner ring gear. A transmission shaft has a lower end forming an input gear mating the inner ring gear and an upper end forming a worm. A gear system is mounted to the second segment, including an output gear mounted to the pivotal pin of the upper segment and fixed to the upper segment and a worm gear mating the worm whereby rotation of the operating ring is transferred to the output gear via the transmission shaft and the gear system for moving the upper segment with respect to the lower segment.

  • Patent number: 5884859
Abstract: An improved winding device is provided for large scale umbrellas which is disposed at suitable position of the supporting metal rod of the umbrella. A cable is attached to the winding device such that by the winding and unwinding of the cable using the winding device, a runner can be moved up or down such that the stretchers and the associated panel can be extended or retracted. The winding device includes a housing having a hollow configuration, a crankshaft and a winding reel. The metal rod is provided with a shaft hole and the housing is enclosed around to the shaft hole. One side of the housing is provided with openings for receiving a crank handle and a winding reel. The winding device also includes a teethed and spring structure inside the housing which cooperatively exert a braking force on the rotation of the crankshaft, but the force can be overcome to allow movements of the crankshaft in both directions of rotation under force from the crank handle.
