    Abstract: A ribbed armrest for inclusion in an automobile door assembly includes a substrate section and a ribbed armrest section. The ribbed armrest section is over-molded onto the substrate section which provides support thereto. The ribbed armrest section includes a plurality of ribs that provide flexibility and a soft cushioned feel. A method of forming the ribbed armrest include a step in which the substrate is injection molded followed by a step in which the armrest section is injection molded onto the substrate section. Trim panels and door assemblies incorporating the ribbed armrest are also provided.

    Abstract: A door trim panel for a door frame of a motor vehicle. The door trim panel includes a main body portion adapted to be removably secured to the door frame and a bolster removably secured to the main body portion. The bolster covers an access opening defined in the main body portion. Fastened to the bolster is an armrest that includes a plurality of spaced-apart nibs or projections positioned to contact an integral support surface of the bolster to thereby support the armrest. In certain embodiments of the invention, the bolster may be integral with the main body portion.

    Abstract: A method of manufacturing an automotive door armrest is provided and comprises molding an armrest support surface into a lower door panel. A frame assembly is formed to comprise at least one through socket having an open upper socket face and an open lower. The frame assembly is overmolded such that an overmold surface is formed over the open upper socket face. A foam bun is inserted into the lower socket face. The frame assembly is mounted onto the armrest support surface such that the foam bun becomes secured within the at least one through socket. The frame assembly is affixed to the lower door panel.
