  • Patent number: 11053145
Abstract: A compact system for treating pharmaceutical waste at a location at which the pharmaceutical waste is disposed includes a housing having a door. The housing contains a waste influent tank configured to hold and discharge a fluid comprising pharmaceutical waste; a first container configured to hold and discharge hydrogen peroxide utilized in a chemical reaction to treat the pharmaceutical waste; a second container configured to hold and discharge aqueous iron solution utilized in the chemical reaction to treat the pharmaceutical waste; and a neutralizer tank in which the chemical reaction is carried out. The door of the housing is configured to move between an open position and a closed position to allow or deny access to an interior of the housing.

  • Patent number: 9126854
Abstract: An apparatus adapted to treat at least one target compound comprising a housing through which fluid may pass; a receiving zone defined within the housing; disposed after the receiving zone within the housing, a destruction zone in which an aqueous solution containing at least one target compound is exposed to a destruction agent, the destruction agent adapted to convert the target compound into destruction byproducts; disposed after the destruction zone, a filtration zone containing a filtration agent adapted to remove the destruction byproducts from the solution; liquid disposal means for receiving solution from the filtration zone; and solid disposal means for receiving solids from the filtration zone, whereby, the target compound is first converted to byproducts, then the byproducts are filtered out of the solution, preventing target compounds from entering wastewater systems and ultimately re-entering the water supply.

  • Publication number: 20130325727
Abstract: A system for disposing of medical waste is generally configured to sort waste items into a plurality of containers according to applicable rules and regulations governing the handling and/or disposal of such items. In some embodiments, a system comprises sorting stations each of which houses a number of disposable containers. Each station can identify an item of waste, determine the most appropriate container for the item, and facilitate disposal of the item in the appropriate container. In some embodiments, a container or receptacle is configured to receive waste that comprises a controlled substance (e.g., a narcotic, other CII pharmaceutical waste, etc.). Such controlled waste can be discarded into the container or receptacle directly or indirectly (e.g., by placing the waste in a cup or other enclosure).
