Publication number: 20150130686Abstract: A cascaded display includes multiple transmitting elements which may include superimposed transparent display panels and backlighting elements. Combinations of different display panels may be used for different types of data, e.g., a persistent data panel and a non-persistent data panel to provide more uniform luminosity at any given point in time. Backlighting may be used to alter the color in which the displayed data is perceived by a viewer.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 8, 2013Publication date: May 14, 2015Applicant: Bose CorporationInventor: Mark R. Patent number: 8509211Abstract: A method of reducing interference by a first wireless audio communication system with a second wireless communication system that is different from the first wireless system is provided. The first wireless system is caused to transmit data packets with a time gap between packets during which the first wireless system is not transmitting. Periodically a long time gap between two packets of the first system is set to be at least as long as a longest time it can take the second wireless system to transmit a data packet even when packet transmission errors are occurring in the first wireless system such that if packets were retransmitted by the first wireless system the long time gap would be reduced to be less than the longest time it can take the second wireless system to transmit a data packet. As such, the second wireless system can transmit one or more data packets during each long time gap during which the first wireless system is not transmitting.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2009Date of Patent: August 13, 2013Assignee: Bose CorporationInventors: John Trotter, Mark R. Patent number: 7602628Abstract: In addition to other aspects disclosed, a method comprises providing a signal to a transformer for supplying power during a reduced activity state. The signal comprises a series of pulses that comprises a positive pulse and a negative pulse. The signal is a segmented version of another signal provided to the transformer during the active state.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2006Date of Patent: October 13, 2009Assignee: Bose CorporationInventors: James W. Kirk, Mark R. Hickman

Publication number: 20090041282Abstract: A ported electroacoustical device uses the action of the port to provide cooling airflow across a heat producing device. The device includes a loudspeaker enclosure including a first acoustic port, and an acoustic driver, mounted in the loudspeaker enclosure. The device also includes a heat producing device. The acoustic driver and the acoustic port are constructed and arranged to coact to provide a cooling, substantially unidirectional airflow across the heat producing device, thereby transferring heat from the heat producing device.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 9, 2008Publication date: February 12, 2009Inventors: Robert Preston Parker, Antonio M. Lage, Mark R. Hickman

Patent number: 4508976Abstract: A circuit for driving a power transistor that forms a part of an inverter circuit used in motor control in which the circuit is switched at high voltages. The motor drive circuit isolates and amplifies a control signal so as to operate the power switching transistors. The base drive circuit employs two characteristics of power transistors to derive maximum protection and maximum performance simultaneously. This control is accomplished by sensing both the collector-to-emitter voltage of the power transistor as well as the base-to-emitter voltage thereof. In an alternate embodiment described herein, a feedback circuit is also provided sensitive to collector-to-emitter voltage for shortening the try-time associated with the power transistor.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1983Date of Patent: April 2, 1985Assignee: Vee Arc CorporationInventors: Mark R. Hickman, Michael M. Brown

Patent number: 4409535Abstract: A motor pulse width modulation control technique employing gated asynchronous carrier modulation including establishing a repetitive modulation signal along with the generation of a carrier frequency signal at a frequency greater than the frequency of the modulation signal. The carrier frequency signal is gated at a gating rate less than the frequency of the carrier frequency signal so as to provide the gated carrier frequency signal. Means are provided for modulating the gated carrier frequency signal by the aforementioned repetitive modulation signal so as to provide cyclic pulse width modulation drive signal for motor control.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1982Date of Patent: October 11, 1983Assignee: Vee Arc CorporationInventor: Mark R. Patent number: 4114807Abstract: This system is of the power management type and is for controlling the operation of the various stages within a number of units such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units commonly referred to as HVAC units which may be of conventional design and for use in commercial buildings. The system permits only a limited number of stages, fewer than the total number contained in all the HVAC units to be predeterminedly operated at one time but preferably stores an indication of all stages which are demanding operation of the total number of HVAC units in the building. If a greater number of stages are demanding than the system has been pre-set to operate then an indication of the unsatisfied or inhibited unit or units is stored. If this condition persists for a predetermined period of time such as 5 minutes then the longest running stage, even though it is sill demanding, is dropped or stopped and the longest waiting inhibited stage is satisfied or started.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 1976Date of Patent: September 19, 1978Assignee: Conservation Controls Corp.Inventors: Melvin L. Naseck, Mark R. Hickman
