  • Patent number: 7793910
Abstract: A surface-mounted base for a breakaway signpost. The base is configured as a sphere so as to present no edges that may be impacted by a vehicle and includes a sunken socket ensuring that no metal shards project above grade after a post is damaged. The base is provided with recessed slots for retaining securing bolts therein. This arrangement prevents the securing bolt heads from being contacted by the undercarriage of a vehicle or mower and plow blades of maintenance machines. The slots also allow for rotation of the base during installation ensuring correct orientation of the signpost. Reflective or florescent materials can be attached to the recesses to enhance night visibility.

  • Patent number: 7779589
Abstract: A post anchor/anchor adapter system is unitary cast or machined steel or the like. An anchor/adaptor alone is driven alone into a hole cut in in-place concrete. The system includes an anchor extension tube for driving into soft soil. The inventive anchor/adaptor has a body in the form of an elongate square tube having radius-curved corners vertically driven into a round receiving hole, forming creases and a secure anchor. The tube has an upper female portion for a post and a lower female portion for an extender and is divided by a horizontal plug wall integral with the tube structure. The lower female portion of the anchor/adapter tapers outward towards its lower open end allowing for an interference fit with the driven tube acting as an anchor. The female portion upper end has crescent-shaped tabs defining a disk sized to plug the drilled hole.

  • Patent number: 6457895
Abstract: The flush mount breakaway post coupler is a coupler for connecting a post to a ground anchor. The coupler has an upper section and a lower section. The upper section has a socket for receiving a post, a shear section, and an anchor attachment portion for attachment to the lower section. The shear section is hollow and cylindrical and has an groove defined about its exterior so that the wall of the shear section is thin, fracture of the coupler occurring around the annular groove. The lower section is an expansion anchor having a threaded bore for receiving a bolt, the lower section being placed in a tubular ground anchor, or a hole defined in the ground. The socket has a bottom wall, and a cylindrical bore extends through the shear section to a predetermined base in the anchor attachment portion. A bolt hole extends from the base of the bore through the anchor attachment section. A bolt connects the upper and lower sections so that the coupler is wedged into the tubular ground anchor as the bolt is tightened.

  • Patent number: 6398188
Abstract: The post puller has an H-shaped base including a pair of parallel legs and a crossbeam normal to the legs, the crossbeam being offset from the midpoint of the legs and defining a shallow channel and a deep channel. A pair of rectangular blocks attached to the legs and crossbeam in the deep channel provide platforms on which a pair of single action hydraulic cylinders are mounted, and define a recess which straddles the post to be pulled. A cross member is pivotally mounted to each cylinder rod. A chain is suspended from the midpoint of the cross member. The chain may be wrapped directly around the post, or a post gripping structure may be attached to the free end of the chain. A pair of wheels may be mounted to the base for portability.

  • Patent number: 6113055
Abstract: The sign post coupler is a breakaway coupler for use with highway signs having a sign post and a ground post. The coupler is a hollow, tubular, integral coupler made from ductile iron and having a sign post socket, a ground post socket, and a shear section joining the two sockets. The sign post socket has a bottom wall and at least one side wall extending vertically for 360.degree. around the bottom wall, the socket defining a cavity for receiving and supporting one end of the sign post. The ground post socket has a top wall and at least one side wall depending vertically for 360.degree. around the bottom wall, the socket defining a cavity for receiving and being supported by one end of the ground post. The sockets taper inwardly towards the center of the coupler to define a shear section having an annular groove of reduced thickness defined therein. The shear section breaks upon impact of a vehicle with the sign post to separate the post sections.
