  • Patent number: 10569920
Abstract: This disclosure provides compositions, films, labels, structures and methods that may include a substrate having a first side and a second side, wherein the first side comprises a skin layer comprising at least 50 wt. % of high-density polyethylene. Further, the compositions may include a coating on the skin layer, wherein the coating comprises a topcoat and a primer, wherein the topcoat consists of: (i) at least 50 wt. % high-density polyethylene and one or more polyethylene polymers in water; (ii) wax, silicone or combination thereof; and (iii) optionally additives, whereupon imaging the composition by a thermal print head at a temperature of 300° C. or less results in no or negligible solvent-penetrability beneath the skin layer.

  • Publication number: 20190002150
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, systems and devices that may be used to measure, calculate, and orient a device such as a drill bit in a downhole environment. To that end, disclosed are fiber optic gyroscopes, wherein the fiber optic gyroscopes comprise elliptical fiber optic cable coils in a mutually orthogonal arrangement that is tilted relative to a length of a supporting shaft, e.g., tube. Light travels in opposite directions within each of the elliptical fiber optic cable coils, and, subsequently, sensors detect differences in time for each light path of the light that traveled in opposite directions within each one of the elliptical fiber optic cable coils. The elliptical nature of the fiber optic cable coils minimizes the cross-sectional area of the mutually orthogonal arrangement, and thereby makes it well-suited for use in downhole environments where space is at a premium. This disclosure also may provide an inertial measurement unit.

  • Publication number: 20130209756
Abstract: Provided is a film including: (a) an intermediate layer comprising a polymer and an antistatic agent, said intermediate layer having a first side and a second side; (b) a first layer including a polymer, said first layer being on the first side and is printed or printable; and (c) a second layer including a polymer and a non-migratory slip agent, said second layer being on the second side, wherein the film has at least one of (i) a thickness of at least about 30 ?m, (ii) a static coefficient of friction of about 0.15 to less than 0.30, and (iii) a kinetic coefficient of friction of about 0.15 to less than 0.30. Also provided are a method for producing such a film, and labels such as cut and stack labels comprising the film.

  • Publication number: 20130059119
Abstract: Multilayer polymer films are described. The films include an oriented polymeric substrate wherein a print-side skin layer of the substrate has a surface roughness, Ra, ?12.0 ?m. The films also include a metal layer in surface contact with the print side of the polymeric substrate, a primer composition in surface contact with the metal layer, and a printable topcoat layer in surface contact with the primer composition. Pressure-sensitive label structures and methods of making such films are also described.

  • Publication number: 20120308789
Abstract: Imageable multilayer films are provided which include at least a core layer comprising a pigment or other colorant, a clear sealant layer, and an image-side tie layer intermediate the core layer and the sealant layer, where the tie layer comprises a cavitating agent. The sealant layer may include a first polymer component having a heat of fusion of less than 75 J/g and a second polymer component. The multilayer film may have a seal strength greater than about 200 g/2.54 cm for a seal formed on a crimp sealer at a temperature of at least 93.3° C. The multilayer film may be biaxially oriented, an image may be effected on the film without the use of inks, and the film may be useful in packaging applications.

  • Patent number: 6946203
Abstract: A biaxially oriented thermoplastic structure including a low density core layer formed from polypropylene, highly crystalline polypropylene or high density polyethylene, and outer layers formed from highly crystalline polypropylene or high density polyethylene. The thickness of the core layer is about 60 to about 95% of the overall thickness of the structure. The stiffness of the structure in the machine direction is in a range from about 0.015 to about 0.15 pound force-centimeters.

  • Publication number: 20030160445
Abstract: A polymeric film structure having a removable scratch off layer particularly suitable for use on “scratch and reveal” devices including instant lottery tickets, “scratch and win” game cards, and various other promotional items. The film structure includes an opaque cavitated layer secured to an adjacent layer along a weakened interface. The cavitated layer initially conceals certain preprinted indicia, e.g., prize information, but may be subsequently removed by scratching and/or rubbing to allow viewing of such indicia.
