  • Patent number: 8011115
Abstract: A fiber-web machine dryer section has a drying group with single-wire draw so the drying wire (F) presses the web (W) against heated cylinder surfaces with the web (W) at the side of the outside curve of reversing cylinders (11) situated between drying cylinders (10, 12). A pocket space (T) is formed between two adjacent drying cylinders (10) and a reversing cylinder (11) situated between them, and the drying wire (F). A negative pressure component (20) placed in the pocket space (T) creates a pressure difference over the drying wire (F) and the web (W) for attaching the web (W) to the drying wire (F) so the cross-direction shrinkage of the web (W) is controllable. The wire tension (F) is maintained at a level help control cross-direction shrinkage of the web. The pocket space (T) is sealed by sealing members (25, 26) to maintain negative pressure in the pocket space.

  • Patent number: 7799170
Abstract: In a paper or board machine drying line after the wire section, during dewatering a web's (W) width is affected in a direction crosswise to the web's traveling direction. Starting from an edge, at least one device (20A, 20B) brings about a force effect of a desired magnitude which is directed all the way to a desired arbitrary crosswise web position in order to modify web characteristics. A device in a paper or board machine line after the wire section has means for processing the web and for dewatering. The paper or board machine line after the wire section further has at least one device (20A; 20B) for directing a force effect at a desired partial area (WS) of the web (W) in the cross machine direction in order to modify the web's characteristics profile in the cross machine direction.

  • Patent number: 7536806
Abstract: An arrangement and method for improving runnability, and dryer section length, by using a vertical impingement dryer before a first dryer cylinder of a group of dryer cylinders. After a pressing section, the web is dried with a pre-impingement dryer, closely followed by a vertical impingement dryer, which is closely following by the first dryer cylinder. The pre-impingement dryer and vertical impingement dryer of the first dryer cylinder to have a drying temperature of approximately 80° C. with no undesirable sticking to the dryer cylinder. The pre-impingement dryer can be arranged to dry a first side of the web, and a vertical impingement dryer after the first dryer cylinder is arranged to dry a second side of the web. The impingement drying takes place directly against the web without an intervening fabric.

  • Publication number: 20070245589
Abstract: A runnability device, for example a runnability box such as a suction box, is for achieving improved runnability of a web when the web (W) progresses supported by a wire (61) to a closing gap between a roll and the wire. The runnability device (10) is located on the side of the wire before the roll and extends over the width of the web so that there is a slot between the wire and the runnability device. The runnability device comprises devices (11) for directing a vacuum from the side of the wire over the width of the closing gap so that the vacuum in the edge area (E) of the web wire is greater than in the central area of the web wire. A characteristic feature of the invention is that the vacuum device (11) which creates the vacuum effect is adjustable in the cross-direction of the web wire.

  • Patent number: 5484482
Abstract: A method and apparatus for limiting the width of a coating and/or preventing damage to roll ends while coating or surface-sizing paper or an equivalent web material in a coating device in which a coating agent, such as size, coating paste or equivalent, is introduced into the coating device to an application zone defined by a coating member, a moving base, lateral seals, and a front wall and spread onto the moving base by the coating member which is loaded against the moving base. Liquid jets are sprayed into the areas outside the coating width, substantially over the width defined by the lateral seals and the roll ends, either onto the moving base before the coating member in the running direction of the moving base or directly into the nip formed by the moving base and the coating member. The liquid jets lubricate the nip and dilute the coating agent that has entered into the areas outside the coating width.

  • Patent number: 5286526
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for coating of a moving base, such as the face of a back-up roll, paper or board web, or equivalent, with a coating agent. In the method, a blade coater is employed in which a coating blade included in the blade coater and installed in a blade holder is loaded in the area between the blade holder and the tip of the coating blade toward the moving base by means of a loading member. The coating blade forms a substantially small angle in relation to the moving base. The coating quantity applied onto the moving base is regulated by adjusting the blade angle and/or the loading of the coating blade. The coating blade is loaded towards the moving base, in the area between said loading member and the tip of the coating blade.

  • Patent number: 5162131
Abstract: A method is provided for measuring and regulating the quantity of coating in surface sizing or pigmenting of paper or board, wherein the coating agent is spread by means of a coating device in the form of a film onto the face of a roll in a size press. The film is transferred from the roll face onto the paper or board in the size press nip. A fluorescent marker agent is mixed into the roll coating or into the coating agent and the measurement of the coating quantity is carried out by means of X-ray fluorescence technique from the face of the size press roll before the film of coating agent is transferred onto the web.

  • Patent number: 4981726
Abstract: Method and apparatus for dispensing coating material on a moving substrate, such as a paper or cardboard web or the surface of a roll or the like, wherein the coating material is introduced into the coating apparatus before a coating nip and applied to the substrate through a slit of the coating apparatus directly onto the surface of the moving substrate. The coating nip and slit of the coating apparatus are formed so that a coating material smoothing member of the coating apparatus is directly supported against the moving substrate in a manner such that the free flow aperture of the slit at the coating nip is confined by the moving substrate and the surface of the smoothing member.

  • Patent number: 4773655
Abstract: The invention relates to a slide ring seal for sealing a shaft rotatable with respect to a wall, which seal comprises a body portion and seal rings provided with slide rings, which seal rings are so arranged with respect to each other that the sealing slide faces of the slide rings are pressed against each other and rotate with respect to each other. Each slide ring is fastened in the seal ring thereof by a shrink fit, whereby the peripheral face of the slide ring is in engagement with a face provided on the seal ring, so that the radial press force of the shrink fit is directed to act on a centroid of the cross-sectional area of the slide ring. In order to ensure that the forces of the shrink fit keep acting accurately on the centroid of the cross-sectional area of the slide ring, at least one of the faces which are in engagement with each other in the shrink fit is convex.
