  • Patent number: 7232503
Abstract: An internal size and a method for sizing board, such as liquid packaging board, with a hydrophobising internal size containing oxetanon derivative or 2-oxetanon. The main part of the hydrocarbon chains R? and R? of the oxetanon derivative or 2-oxetanon are derived from linear fatty acids, and ?20 w-%, typically 2 to 15 w-%, most typically 5 to 12 w-% of the hydrocarbon chains are derived from branched and mainly saturated fatty acids.

  • Patent number: 7211608
Abstract: A modified filler used in the making of paper or the like, preparation of the filler and its use. The modified filler comprises a filler known as such, e.g. Calcium carbonate, kaolin, talc, titanium dioxide, sodium silicate and aluminum trihydrate or their mixture, and a hydrophobic polymer made of polymerisable monomers, which is added to the filler as a polymer dispersion or a polymer solution.

  • Patent number: 6939441
Abstract: A stock size intended to be added as a solution to the pulp stock in connection with the manufacture of paper or board in order to improve the characteristics of the paper or board, e.g.), to reduce the absorption of liquids, to increase the dry strength and wet strength. The stock size contains a polymer, which is based on styrene maleic acid and stabilised with a polysaccharide, such as cationic starch. The stock size is advantageously prepared in a steam jet cooker. The stock size is suitably used as a stock size in the manufacturing of liquid packaging board.

  • Patent number: 6749722
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a paper of multi-color ink-jet printable grade. A proper hydrophicity for the paper is secured by using an 2-oxetanone size in the appropriate sizing steps. The size is made from non-branched and branched-chain fatty acids having main chain comprising 6-22 carbons linked with each other by saturated bonds.

  • Patent number: 5961708
Abstract: The present invention relates to a size composition of improving the water repellency of paper in papermaking by virtue of adding prior to web formation to the pulp slurry such a sizing dispersion that contains at least a ketene dimer compound as a hydrophobic sizing agent, and further contains colloidal starch in an amount which is at least 150% by weight of the hydrophobic sizing agent. The invention is particularly applicable for improving the water repellency of paper containing calcium carbonate as the filler.

  • Patent number: 4319116
Abstract: A procedure is disclosed in the application, for carrying out arc welding under water or in otherwise difficult external conditions. In the procedure, there is introduced in the arc area or in its immediate vicinity, an auxiliary substance having the purpose to boost the ignition of the arc and its burning and to retard the cooling of the weld bead produced, so that the emergence of gases from the welded seam is promoted and the quality of the weld seam improves. The auxiliary substance used consists mainly of soap which is a salt formed by anions of a fatty acid, a fatty acid mixture or a mixture of fatty and resin acids and by metal cations or a mixture of such salts and which may in addition contain water and inorganic salts. Best results have been obtained by using for auxiliary substance soft soaps made of tall oil and which contain salts of both fatty acids, such as oleic and linoleic acid and of resin acids, such as abietic acid.
