  • Publication number: 20040233031
Abstract: A system (10) comprising a planar transformer winding (16) also comprises an electromagnetic interference (EMI) suppressor arrangement (24) for suppressing common mode EMI generated by the transformer winding. The suppressor arrangement comprises a planar winding (28) which, in use, is energized in anti-phase relative to the system winding. The arrangement being such that the winding arrangement (24) is exposed to the system winding via a dielectric medium, thereby to provide capacitive coupling between the suppressor winding arrangement and the system, to suppress EMI generated by the system winding.

  • Patent number: 6791817
Abstract: The invention provides an electro-adhesion device (10) including a base (12) and first (14) and second (16) banks of thin electrically conductive electrodes (18) located apart from each other on a side of the base (12). The electro-adhesion device (10) also includes an insulating cover (20) over the first (14) and second (16) banks so that the outer side of the insulating cover (20) defines an electro-adhesion surface so that, in use, when the electrodes (18) are energized and an object to be attracted is placed adjacent the insulating cover (20), the object is attracted to the insulating cover (20) by a suitably high adhesion force. An outer surface (24) of each of the electrodes (18) has a linear border on one side and a sinusoidal border on an opposite side so that the width of each electrode (18) varies sinusoidally lengthwise along the electrode (18).

  • Patent number: 6608545
Abstract: This invention relates to a planar transformer which includes a primary winding and a secondary winding defined by a first stage including at least one track on a first layer and at least one track on a second layer. These in combination provide a first output voltage. The transformer also includes a second stage which includes at least one track on the first layer and at least one track on the second layer which in combination provide a second output voltage. Furthermore, the ratio of the maximum cumulative current in the first and second stages is equal to half of the ratio of the track widths of the first and second stages. The invention extends to a method of enhancing electrical or physical characteristics of a planar transformer.
