  • Patent number: 11202097
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for encoding a picture are disclosed. For at least one block of a picture to encode, a block predictor is determined (22) for a decoded first component (21) of said at least one block, from a reconstructed region of a first component of said picture. At least one second component of said at least one block is then encoded (23) by predicting said at least one second component from a second component of said block predictor. • Patent number: 11184581
Abstract: A content stream comprising video and synchronized illumination data is based on a reference lighting setup from, for example, the site of the content creation. The content stream is received at a user location where the illumination data controls user lighting that is synchronized with the video data, so that when the video data is displayed the user's lighting is in synchronization with the video. In one embodiment, the illumination data is also synchronized with events of a game, so that a user playing games in a gaming environment will have his lighting synchronized with video and events of the game. In another embodiment, the content stream is embedded on a disk.

  • Publication number: 20200021846
Abstract: A spatial guided prediction technique uses reconstructed pixels of a first component of a digital video image block to determine prediction modes used to recursively build prediction blocks for the other components of the same digital video image block. The technique builds improved predictions resulting in smaller prediction residuals and less bits to code for a given image quality. In one embodiment, the prediction blocks for the subsequent digital video component blocks are built recursively line by line. In another embodiment, the prediction blocks for subsequent digital video component blocks are built recursively column by column.

  • Publication number: 20190238895
Abstract: When performing inter-layer prediction, the present method and apparatus make predictive inter-layer determinations, such as from the LDR layer to the HDR layer, based on pixels used in the LDR layer for intra prediction of the LDR block using an intra LDR mode and also based on the homologous pixels in the HDR layer for the intermediate intra prediction block using the same intra LDR mode. By using these bases, it is possible to estimate an inverse tone mapping function and then apply this estimated function to the LDR block in order to determine the inter-layer HDR prediction block.

  • Publication number: 20180300587
Abstract: Clustering patches of a degraded version of an image is such that the clusters are based on errors computed between patches of the degraded version processed with upgrade functions associated respectively with the clusters and patches of a full graded version of the image corresponding respectively to the patches of the degraded version. The source image is thus used to determine clusters for the image to restore. A restoration framework based on a clustering according to the present principles is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9948956
Abstract: A method for encoding and decoding an image block, an encoder, and a decoder are provided. The method for encoding an image block comprises: determining a local dynamic range of the block; adaptively precision-extending pixel values of the block based on the local dynamic range of the block; and encoding the block with an adaptively extended precision. • Publication number: 20170366807
Abstract: A method of encoding a video image includes, for each one of blocks of the video image, calculating virtual gradient values in the block depending on neighboring gradient values computed in a causal neighborhood of the block and acquiring one prediction direction or non-directional intra prediction mode based on the virtual gradient values; and determining a coding mode by comparing different predictions for the block, acquiring a predicted block by applying the determined “coding mode”, acquiring a residual error between the predicted block and the current block and encoding a difference between the determined coding mode and the prediction direction or non-directional intra prediction mode. The calculating includes, for each prediction direction, propagating the neighboring gradient values along the prediction direction to estimate the virtual gradient values in the block.
