  • Publication number: 20110049896
Abstract: There are a large number of sites in the world's oceans and rivers that can provide a significant, viable, and cost effective source of renewable energy. Many are strategically located close to populated areas where these sites can be used to harness energy using ecologically benign hydrodynamic technology. A hydrodynamic array comprises multiple hydrodynamic elements for producing electricity by the motion of ocean tides or river currents and forces acting on the hydrodynamic array, which is immersed in ocean tides or river currents and which is in motion relative to the ocean tides or river currents.

  • Publication number: 20090253898
Abstract: Determining the structure of permanent charge for an ion channel formulates an abstract operator, describing ion channel parameters, comprising equations that are ill-posed. The model of ion channel behavior relates the function of the ion channel to the structure of permanent charge within the ion channel and concentrations ions around the ion channel under certain properties and boundary conditions. The model also includes regularization of the abstract operator by approximating the ill-posed equations with a family of well-posed equations. An estimate of the closeness of the well-posed solution to the ill-posed solution is provided. Providing stable and convergent algorithms allows the model to determine a stability for the regularized solution, so that a regularization parameter can determine a balance between the stability and accuracy of the solution.

  • Patent number: 6581117
Abstract: The automatic control and administration of program-controlled endoscopic apparatuses allocated to an operation within an operating theater belonging to a clinic region and connected amongst one another by way of a CAN-bus using the standardized layer-seven CANopen protocol for communication among one another and a master computer, is modified so that with the same CAN-bus, a double ring structure, a ring-star structure and a ring-ring structure may be logically formed, permitting peer-to-peer communication of the apparatuses, with which the apparatuses have equality of access to each other and the master computer. The apparatuses, connected to one another via the CAN-bus, of all operating theaters of a clinic communicate with and are centrally controlled by the master computer. All apparatuses are capable of informing the master computer of the occurring process data or parameters. System operation is possible at the master computer as well as at the apparatuses themselves.
