  • Publication number: 20140284112
Abstract: A mud saver valve (MSVIII), positionable at the bottom of the drill string, above the bit, which includes an elongated body portion; portion of the valve housing a compressible spring a pressure; a valve mechanism of a plunger and seat, the plunger moveable between open and closed positions within the valve by concentric actuator pistons; while in the closed position, drilling fluid cannot pass through the valve; when a combination of static and pump pressure exceeds the setting pressure of the spring, the plunger will be unseated by the concentric actuator pistons to the open position, at which time drilling fluid is allowed to through the valve; wherein when the valve is normally closed, as long as the fluid column pressure is less than the setting pressure, the valve remains closed, and allows the drill string to be disconnected and a section of pipe can be added without the fluid draining from the drill column above the bit, and thus saving fluid.

  • Publication number: 20130306162
Abstract: A method of hot tapping into a multiple string configuration for obtaining access to the production tubing without removing outer layers of casing by providing a multiple casing string that includes at least an outer casing and an inner casing or production string; mounting a clamp assembly around the wall of the outer casing; hot tapping a small opening through the outer casing wall to capture any pressurized fluid through the opening; cutting first and second large openings through the wall of the outer casing to access the inner casing, each opening being approximately 180 degrees from the other opening; through the first opening, drilling a small hole through the wall of the inner casing to capture any pressurized fluid through the opening in the inner casing; and inserting an anvil through the second opening to contact and stabilize the wall of the inner casing to prevent the casing from moving while the casing is drilled.

  • Patent number: 8002032
Abstract: A hydraulic overshot apparatus designed to slide over plain end tubing and set by applying hydraulic fluid, under pressure, via a hydraulic setting port, into a center chamber which allows pressure to direct to two different piston areas. The setting piston compresses packer elements and tubing slips against the outer diameter (O.D.) of the tubing. The test piston compresses tubing test elements against the inner diameter (I.D.) of the tubing. The setting pressure is ported through the upper setting and test portion to allow pressure to move from the center chamber to the lower outer portion. The lower outer portion includes a body lock ring and a setting piston for setting the packer elements. Setting pressure moves the setting piston down through the body lock ring. As the setting piston moves down, it ratchets down through the body lock ring.
