  • Patent number: 10280658
Abstract: A retractable handle arrangement comprises a handle movable between stowed, deployed and operative states. That movement is controlled by a mechanism having first and second links each connected to a supporting structure and to the handle. At least one of those links is connected to the supporting structure by a joint defining a pivot axis that is movable is response to movement of the handle between the deployed state and the operative state. That movement of the pivot axis is used to unlatch a door or other closure associated with the handle, for example via a crank acting on a Bowden cable.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 13, 2011
Date of Patent: May 7, 2019
Inventors: Martin Charles Halliwell, Heather McEntee
  • Patent number: 9745773
Abstract: A double latch assembly for a motor vehicle having two pivotably mounted closure members is disclosed in which a power cinch mechanism is used to ensure first and second claws are moved and held in a second fully locked position.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 25, 2014
Date of Patent: August 29, 2017
    Assignee: JAGUAR LAND ROVER LIMITED
    Inventor: Martin Charles Halliwell

  • Patent number: 8336929
Abstract: A double latch assembly for a motor vehicle having two pivotably mounted closure members is disclosed in which a sequencing lever is used to release first and second pawls used to hold first and second rotatable claws in respective latched positions. A single actuator A1 is used to release both of the pawls but because of the use of a disengageable coupling between the sequencing lever and the second pawl it is ensured that the first pawl is always released before the second pawl. Only a single actuator A1 is required to release both pawls and no sensors are required to control the sequencing of the pawls.
