Publication number: 20210330428Abstract: Systems and method for fabrication of dental appliances are provided. An example method includes receiving data identifying approximate locations of individual teeth in a three-dimensional digital dental model representing an impressioned position of a patient's dentition. The example method may also include generating component models corresponding to individual teeth for each of the identified approximate locations. The component models may be disposed at initial positions based on the impressioned position of the patient's dentition. The example method also includes determining target positions for the component models and generating a tooth-positioning appliance design based on the determined target positions for the component models. The method may also include causing a tooth-positioning appliance to be fabricated based on the tooth-positioning appliance design.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 6, 2021Publication date: October 28, 2021Inventors: Andrew S. MARTZ, Martin G. MARTZ, Kan WU

Patent number: 10335253Abstract: A tooth-positioning appliance for closing spaces has at least two appliance segments, each segment having a thin elastomeric shell with recesses for removably engaging a set of teeth, and tooth-clasping elements for removably engaging bonded attachments protruding from the teeth. One of the appliance segments includes a flat receptacle extending horizontally on the thin shell of the appliance segment, and the other appliance segment has a thin elongated tab extending laterally from the second appliance segment spanning the space to be closed, and in sliding engagement with the flat receptacle of the other appliance segment. An activating element is connected between the appliance segments to exert a force to change the size of the space between the sets of teeth as the tab slides with respect to the flat receptacle.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 2017Date of Patent: July 2, 2019Assignee: Martz Inc.Inventors: Martin G. Martz, Andrew S. Martz

Patent number: 5145364Abstract: Dental clasps are removable secured to teeth in part by wire ears engaging the natural undercut of the teeth and in part by engagement with buttons adhered to the teeth. Clasps are modified for the above purpose and also form combinations to engage different areas of teeth to correct various occlusions. Preferably the clasps are encased in molded plastic appliances which fit a single arch or a portion thereof or fit both arches. The plastic appliance preferably does not cover the occlusal surfaces; hence the patient's mouth may close to a more normal position. The buttons are shaped to facilitate installation of the appliance, as by tapering the outside surface of the button or the slot in the button which receives the clasp.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1991Date of Patent: September 8, 1992Assignee: M-B Orthodontics, Inc.Inventors: Martin G. Patent number: 4880380Abstract: There is disclosed herein an appliance for orthodonture characterized in that at least most of the appliance may be manually installed and removed by the patient, as required. This appliance includes a plurality of individual clasps for gripping onto individual upper or lower teeth of the patient. The clasps are configured such that they can be manually placed in gripping positions onto and manually disengaged from the teeth by the patient. At the same time, first and second continuous arch wires are connected at predetermined points along their lengths to the various clasps such that when the clasps are in gripping positions on their respective teeth, the wires extend from tooth to tooth along the facial and lingual sides of the teeth, respectively, and exert forces on the teeth to move the latter from malocclusion positions to desired, more ideal positions.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1987Date of Patent: November 14, 1989Inventor: Martin G. Martz

Patent number: 4793803Abstract: Separate appliances are insertable in and removable from the upper and lower jaws of the patient to correct minor malocclusions. The appliance construction has several modifications but consists essentially of: (a) a fairly rigid portion which mates with or securely grips the tooth surface, (b) a rigid portion to provide the base and shape, and (c) an intermediate, flexible resilient portion interposed between (a) and (b) which biases the teeth into the desired position. Details and variations of each of the three portions are described. The rigidity of the rigid portion may vary depending on the condition of an individual case. In some instances the rigid portion need only be somewhat flexible, thereby performing the function of the intermediate portion as well. The method of fabricating each portion is likewise disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 1987Date of Patent: December 27, 1988Inventor: Martin G. Martz
