  • Patent number: 4580874
Abstract: A method for repairing or joining together optical fiber cables is described herein that uses a ferrule to connect two optical fiber cable lengths. Each cable length comprises a metal tube containing one or more optical fibers and a filler material. The ferrule is placed in overlapping relationship with each tube and a lap joint is effected between the ferrule and each tube. An outer sleeve having a length substantially equal to a gap between the tubes is formed about the ferrule and is bonded to each tube. The outer sleeve preferably has an outer periphery substantially corresponding to the outer periphery of the tubes so that the joined cable has a substantially continuous surface. A kit for performing the method is also described.

  • Patent number: 4325746
Abstract: The system comprises a plurality of on-line cleaning tanks, through which continuous metal strip is passed, and a plurality of storage tanks, each containing a different cleaning solution. Different combinations of cleaning solutions are transferred to the on-line tanks from the storage tanks by selecting a particular combination or sequence of cleaning solutions in accordance with the type or composition of metal or metal alloy comprising the strip and automatically feeding the cleaning solutions to the on-line tanks in accordance with the sequence selected. The on-line tanks and storage tanks are interconnected by a network of conduits, pumps and valves which are automatically conditioned by a control element to operate in response to the selection of a particular cleaning sequence. Upon completion of a cleaning operation, each of the solutions is returned to its corresponding storage tank.

  • Patent number: 4216364
Abstract: A high current cell-shorting switch is provided with removable bus bar tips having an enlarged beveled area of contact. A plurality of movable tapered bridge contacts are arranged along a main shaft such that upon rotation of the shaft a plurality of the bridge contacts are simultaneously driven into spanning contact with two of the bus bar tips. The main shaft is supported by pairs of split collars which can be easily separated thereby permitting removal of the main shaft and associated contacts. Upon separation, the switch contacts and bus bar tips may be easily removed for refurbishing or replacement.
